I got my (now dead) IWC from Ken at Chazingtime.
I read somewhere in this very looong tread, that a watchsmith had looked at the movement of another members IWC, and found that it was a very good movement. Well, not mine! :D
But even with a dead movement, this watch still looks damn good ... ;)

^exactly you are not going to wear a watch that doesn't tell you time. I have my iwc on order with Ryan and even he is coming back telling me that he is finding issues with the movement during QC.

I thought I saw somewhere that stated the movement was a combination of 2 common ones? If so, then surely parts can be sourced?

Good luck with members that have to send their IWC back.
I'm sure Ryan will look after you ;).
These failed movement(s) makes me more nervous everyday now...

Im not sure we know that actually. The clutch wheels in the automatic winding bridge look like ETA type wheels but the bridge itself is totally custom. The mainspring will be the biggest problem if it breaks since I can't think of any Chinese branded watch that has a 70 hour power reserve so where to get one of them I don't know.

Damn.. I read this whole thread only to see some of them (probably statistically decent portion) of them are failing. I really really want a white and blue one.

no issues per say with movement yet. PR steadily increasing since wearing it. will continue to moniter it over the next few days. only issue i have is there either a scratch on the inner crystal or a metal shaving is stuck on the inside. just below the 2marker.

Well, I was about to place an order. This (and the dead movement cases) changes everything!

Regarding rep movements ...
I had a watchsmith take a look at my IWC Big Pilot some years ago. Had a Lume job, and some other stuff done. I asked about making a service on the movement, and he told me: "it's a shit movement, so no use in making a service on it"
Well this shit movement has worked perfect for 4 years now! It starts to go when I pick up the watch, and it goes 99% accourate! The power reserve is about 3 days, and it gains about 2 sec pr. day! (Great movement in my eyes)
Now my nice looking IWC Portuguese dies on me after just 2 weeks, - talk about shit movement .... :D

Well, I heard from my TD. He told me to send the watch back to him.
But should I instead send the watch to my (new) watchsmith, and have him fix it?
What would you do?
If I get another watch, mayby the movement also dies after 2-3 weeks?

It would be great if the TD, could say something about if it's the same problem with all these dead movements, - and what the problem is. ?

^ Send it back via EMS. It will cost you about $25-50 depending on country and you will receive a working watch back. Service local he wont do it for $50 thats for sure. Plus its an opportunity for the movement makers to see whats broken and what improvements can be made.
