Anyone expats have any experience with bring back a bunch of reps back to the States? Will there be any issue of importing counterfeit good. I have heard horror stories, personal friends of my parent got caught with 50 to 100 bootleg dvds for Chinese sitcoms for personal use, they end up having to sell 2 of their houses to pay for the fines. No kidding.

Rent a PO box in the States or find a parcel pickup/hold service. Mail them to the States a few at a time before moving, then retrieve them once you move.

Find a trusted member that will help you out. A couple of weeks out from moving start shipping them little by little until you just have a couple to carry on you. Then have the member ship them to you after you get in the states.

The authorities are allowed and actually go thru all of your stuff?!
Come on,how long does that take and talk about an invasion of privacy.
Are they going to tax stuff too?
I can see going thru a chemical search for drugs/bomb making...
you've got to be kidding me.

Seriously. DO NOT try that.

You will not be fined for them being fake, you will be taxed.

The customs officers will use the value of gens to tax you.

If you do, wear one (and tell your travelling companions to wear one each as well, if there is any) and put one in each bag. Don't attempt to hide them, they look for anything that is out of place.

Just don't put any in bags with things you need to declare (the bags that they will hand check)

Not guaranteeing anything, that's how id do it.

They have every right. Even going through your computer or looking through your diary, documents, etc.

Last time I entered the States I had over 200 bootleg DVD's and a few counterfeit items, nothing happened. If you have a lot of them just ship them 2-3 at a time to someone in US.

Wow, that's going to be a pain. that's like $25 per watch for shipping.. I know the couple that got busted for the dvds got their asses handed to them. You know how when you watch the beginning of the dvd movies the FBI warning for $250,000 per copyright infringement. Their houses are in Los Angeles. They wanted much more than the 2 houses, but they settled for hundreds of thousands. So they had to sell the houses. Wonder what the fines will be if they do see the reps, and I tell them straight up they are reps and their rep value. I know that legally you can own reps for personally use but you just can't sell it. More insight on the matter would be helpful.

Well I have a couple of gens that I bought back in the States, they can't tax me on those right? I already paid the taxes on those, still have the boxes and papers somewhere.

I think I'd contact WBK and Narikaa and ask them for advice. They're the experts.

I assume these are not new reps in plastic, but your own watches. So put them in a watch case and declare them as personal items.

You can travel with your collection of watches, rings, or whatever. Now if each item is wrapped and packaged separtley then it will be obvious your reselling them, just use your head and be honest.

I was thinking that too. You think carry on would be best or check luggage?

There's no good replicas in chinese shops, so, what's the point to bring sh***load of junk in the first place? I buy reps at my TD's office in GZ every time I'm there, never had any problems to bring them here. Once chinese Customs opened my suitcase, saw 10 reps, didn't say a word. Never was searched by US Customs.

Dude, how many watches are you talking about bringing back? When you asked for help from expats, I assumed you're talking about a big collection.

Find out what your limits are for bringing stuff into the States. Your worst worry is that they see the watches and apply a gen value. In normal circumstances that's not a problem, but if they say it's $100k in watches you may get dinged. If they're judged counterfeit, the worst you can get is seizure. There's no fbi warning on watches.

I don't buy the theory that "the worst you can get is seizure". Contraband is contraband.

Know the Rules. The Department of Homeland Security's website states that you can bring one replica into the United States per person per item. Replica items are trademarked and copyrighted items that another producer has made and copied. Travelers into the United States are granted an exemption. What this is basically saying is that if you have one replica watch, such as a fake Rolex, you can bring that into the United States. You can also bring one handbag, one pair of sunglasses, one pair of shoes and so on. These are rules set up by The Department of Homeland Security and apply to most any country you are traveling from unless the country is under and embargo such as Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Serbia, Montenegro, North Korea, Burma, Angola, Liberia, Sierra Leone (diamonds only) and Sudan.
