I don't buy the theory that "the worst you can get is seizure". Contraband is contraband.

Blah blah blah. Legally speaking, yeah, you're screwed. You already know this. That's why you're asking the question.

Being nice and feigning ignorance goes a long way. IF they look at your watches, and IF they think they are either valuable or counterfeit, and IF they confront you and say they are counterfeit, you feign shock and say you had no idea. Notice the IFs keep getting bigger and bigger.

Unless you've got a crazy history of some sort, the worst thing you have to worry about when coming back into the states is the hair gel and water bottle in your carry on.

Put watches in display case. Pack display case in suitcase. Travel to US. Arrive at destination remove watches.

Unless you have over 20/30 reps then your fine.

I suppose you're also suggesting he lie on his claims form when entering??

Claim your items. Fill out a customs claim form. Anytime before you are ready to enter the United States, fill out a customs claim form notating any purchases and the amount of their worth. Once you’re at customs, divulge anything you have bought and answer any questions they may have. They are usually friendly and helpful although it is possible for them to not allow an item back in to the United States. This is strictly their discretion.

My ex wife got in a serious pissing match with Customs over importing 2 gen Rolexes from Grand Cayman because they weren't listed on her form. She was detained and everything was carefully searched including her person, and she was threatened with being charged with smuggling. They were neither friendly nor helpful after they found them.

And, "I forgot" doesn't work.

I expect him to lie on his claims forms about as much as he lies whenever he wears a replica watch.

Hmmm. I wonder why that happened.

If you only risk selling two houses to pay the fine, it really sounds like it is worth the risk...

So what does one do when they are moving the contents from a home in 1 country to another, like in a cargo container or does that not happen?

A lot of this losing two houses stuff are just plain urban legend. I have not met anyone that's actually paid that much of fine.
I have been travelling for over thirty years and brought back Cuban Cigars and numerous counterfeit items. I was never searched.

Custom people are not interested in 10 or 20 DVD, or 1 or 2 rep. They are only interested in dealers. I saw it on TV, they seized containers of counterfeits.

The only real people that I know was caught is because they have fruit/food in their luggage. They found counterfeits in the baggage. They received a warning and merchandise are forfeited. The only person that I know got into real trouble is actually selling counterfeit software (complete with boxes). He got hauled into court and his bank account was seized.

The US claim form is for new purchase only. I travelled with my brother in law once. He was a novice. He itemized all his purchase and wrote a check for the tax. The custom people just waved him off. They don't want to deal with $20 and paper work.

So as long as the OP does not have hundred of watches in brand new boxes, nobody really want to deal with 4 or 5 used rep watches. Just remember, don't bring food into the country.

So the OP gets to decide whether he takes the risk of getting his reps into the states, or ends up getting his colon tickled for 10 years.

If he has hundreds, and they are all new. He will be in a category called smuggling. But if he has only 4 or 5, I don't think he'll have any problem. I brought back 4 to 5 watches every year. And I make sure they looked used; removed some links, break in the leather strap a bit.

My friend that was caught. He was smuggling some fruit in a coffee can. First they asked him if he has any fruit. He said no which was a stupid thing to do. The custom people then started a search and found a couple of rep watches still in plastic wrap. He was let go with a warning. Of course, the fruit and the watches were seized. They told him there will be a big fine and possible jail time for the second offense. BTW, they didn't touch the Chinese DVDs he brought back.

Does Mississippi even have any international airports?

And every body has two houses, the big house and the out house.

So I only have 1 house. What will they do, take my house and file a lien against future houses?

Just out of curiosity, why would your friend try smuggling fruit in:thinking:
