I went there yesterday and got a nice AP RO.

Paid 1/3 of what one on here would cost from a TD.

Im happy with the quality of it, just hope it continues to work.

Store I bought from was on Level 3.

I was also offered a good Submariner Ceramic SS for 2,600.

SuperLory, is there a link to such a watch? I have thoroughly scanned a number of TDs, and did not see a 15400 for that amount.

Thanks in advance

So some stuff has changed since i last visited, update on the 3 shops which i frequent:

MT - they now feature one shop space instead of two, the other space is now divided to sell women jewellery. I didn't ask much, but i do have a feeling some stuff went wrong with the business here. The owner is still there and still being the friendly person she is, she still stocks watch reps but you have to ask for them. I frequent this shop often in my previous trips and do have the contacts with them if i ever need one, but i rarely do so these days.

M&M - booming business as always, the lady boss is still there with her same 2 assistants. But a little tad too aggressive for my liking.

Nah Piek - MT and Nah Piek are related for those of you who are wondering, ever since the death of NP, MT has been taking up the bulk of watch sales. I didn't bother to check this stall as I lack the time.

Project Time - seems like this shop has disappeared. I believe he might have moved, but it was due to the renovation which was done last year. Not a big deal to me as I now prefer to send my reps to the watchsmiths at RWI these days.

I still enjoy browsing MBK whenever I visit BKK, but I head there mainly to say hi to the shop owners as they have become friends to me over the past 5 years, great people to talk too apart from just business.

the ap ro is likely a 21J. Same as what you would get off AE.

Thanks man

I will buy one perhaps. If i do, will compare with a MBK watch and update the forum in Detail. I am going to be in bkk to shop APs in a coupla months.

I know from my bkk trip buying Hublots that the price-delta can be quite large (one-fourth to one-fifth the price). The finish, the strap, the clasp, etc are all the same (big bang and classic fusion, both). One aesthetic difference based on TD pictures is the backplate, but the cost delta from that is miniscule. So, most of the delta then probably has to be ascribed to the movement, i suppose... Then that makes me wonder how much a movement costs to buy wholesale.

Re links above: The 15400 Lites seem to be about just under half the price of the latest and best 15400 JFs.

It would be great if someone who had a mbk 15400 and the best v2 JF would compare with pics, in detail. And if anyone has Lite too, bring on the comparison! :)

One of the assistants is quite a tigress :) Helpful and sharp.

there is no mbk 15400, they were phased out very long ago after NP passed. They were the only ones who tried to make their pieces in-house which were great in their time but highly far from perfect today. Every single watch now comes from China, the price differences you see are within reason, usually they only exist with 21J movements, but from experience, the time pieces can be 50/50. You could be faced with time keeping issues after a few months. The benefit from purchasing from them would be to examine the pieces first hand.

The watches from mbk are fun to buy as daily beaters, but I would still stick to the TDs here if you are after better quality pieces.

anyone who heads there to look, i would suggest just looking at level 3, the rest of the levels are tad over aggressive and overpriced.

When you refer to quality, are you referring to the movement-quality?

(Good to know abt the history, thanks. Any 15400 bought from mbk L3 then would be good as a baseline. Can only go upwards from there :)

Was in MBK yesterday. Unable to be shown anything of great quality all the stock carried seems a year or two out of date.

Might be good if you are looking for a discontinued rep. They seem to have mostly NOS.

Which brands did you find this issue with at mbk, in your experience?

I ask - with respect - as the basic BB and CF Hublots from mbk are quite epic. I had been to local ADs before i went to bkk. I had also checked all the QC pics posted on fora and the rep pics on TD sites before going. The rubber strap, metal-finish (satin and gloss), clasp, dial, hands, crown, etc. are wonderfully copied.

Are hublots easier to copy, perhaps? :)

I can quite imagine that Daytonas and 15400s wont be quite as easy to copy aesthetically. More complex look and finish overall.

nah... the differences start to come up after a few weeks/months.

screws get loose, clasps starts to fail, plating starts to fade. not to mention, the dial is also a big factor. the cheaper versions have much cheaper dials and crystals. the hublot case finishing isnt as well done as the ones which the tds provide. the corners of the classic fusions are not sharp but rounded. the cf dial of the classic fusion are stickers. from a distance they pass as well made, but if you go up close, the details are night and day. you pay for what you get.

another notable mention: the lume. often the 21j lumes are extremely terribly applied. they often come in different colors, over flowing the markers.

Thanks. I will watch out for the physical failures over time since mine are just 2-4 months old. I did notice that the AR may not be the greatest in these. I am going to buy a hublot from a TD and compare AR performance!

However, the dial and case are spot-on. What price hublot CF reps are you referring to from L3 mbk which have these major flaws?

(The BB dials and case do not have these flaws?)

Project Time is currently located on the 3rd floor at MBK. He is located in a back corner in a hard to find location. The best directions I can give is the location is the opposite end of MBK to the BTS and he is on the right hand side as you enter the centre. I was there 3 days ago.
I am now having breakfast on the banks of the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi after a day at Hellfire Pass yesterday. Erawan Falls tomorrow before Bkk for a day or two before heading home.
Due to the crackdowns recently on fakes a lot of the dealers in MBK now show empty watch boxes and you have to ask to see the reps. They will run off to the secret stash and return for your viewing pleasure. I intend picking up an AP and a Submariner for 7,700 baht as I like new toys to play with
