Lead is significantly lighter than gold, tungsten is the only thing I know that is very close to the density of gold. Except for uranium but that would be fatal and is meant as a joke.
You must not understand the difference between powder and solid pieces of tungsten. Tungsten has been used in jewelry for a very long time now, at least a few decades. Tried and proved to not be hazardous I even believe it's hypoallergenic so it's actually a lot better than some steels.tungsten is not much better that lead
« Contact can irritate the skin and eyes. * Breathing Tungsten can irritate the nose and throat. * Repeated exposure to very high levels may affect the lungs. * Tungsten powder is a FLAMMABLE SOLID and a FIRE HAZARD. »
Tungsten manufacturing is hazardous for this reason. But like will said, tungsten and tungsten carbide rings have existed for yearstungsten is not much better that lead

While you aren't wrong and it's kinda like putting a bandaid on a stab wound in a sense, I do still feel like the amount of price difference is significant enough to deem them at least worth further developing and hopefully they can get the finer details down. I honestly don't have a problem with gold plating but that's just me personally. I would never spend the money for a solid gold case cause gold isn't that special to me anyway I would much prefer to put that money towards other things (watches, mods, maybe gen parts who knows)I really do not see the point of these tungsten cases. At the end of the day it is still plated, and even so it does not adhere properly. The case shape, rehaust etc is way off, so is the added weight worth having an inferior case??
spend a bit more and get a real 18k CNC case IMO.
a bit more? The tungsten watch is 1-1.5k and 18k cnc is roughly 12-15k. I also agree the rehaut is pretty bad on the tungsten cases which is a put offI really do not see the point of these tungsten cases. By "a bit" you mean USD11k?I really do not see the point of these tungsten cases. At the end of the day it is still plated, and even so it does not adhere properly. The case shape, rehaust etc is way off, so is the added weight worth having an inferior case??

Not even close. Much much less.By "a bit" you mean USD11k?
The last time I asked a trusted watchmaker here, an 18k daytona case with caseback costs 8k. While some people might ok to pay such an amount on a rep, I think more just want to deal with a tungsten case even if it's all kind of flaws. Not even close. Much much less.
Just need to know where and who to purchase it from.
They add heavy markups. The last time I asked a trusted watchmaker here, an 18k daytona case with caseback costs 8k. While some people might ok to pay such an amount on a rep, I think more just want to deal with a tungsten case even if it's all kind of flaws.
I understand that. For me, I will take a good gold-plated SS case and ignore the weight and I will never take off the watch for others to play with. And I have really thought about getting an 18k gold case, but the price is a real hike which I am hesitant to pay. They add heavy markups.
I don’t understand this logic. If that was the case , then it wouldn’t make sense to spend money on a tungsten watch either. A clean plated gold watch is superior to a tungsten watch in every way (- weight?) , and cheaper.
To each their own! My intent wasn’t to derail this thread anyway haha, just adding an opinion. I’m sure the tungsten cases will be improved soon.
Yea, I'm inclined to agree with this sentiment. However, I can't definitively rule out the allure of starting from scratch with a full gold build; it's undeniably tempting and could potentially be an impulsive decision for me. Yet, I acknowledge that modifying these watches veers far from pragmatism.I understand that. I agree, a gold daytona, or a gold pp 5711, the temptation is too high to resist.Yea, I'm inclined to agree with this sentiment. Can anyone tell me the weight of a GF/QF Daytona on an Oysterflex? Is it evenly distributed? Is there a lot of weight in the bracelet to the point where it's useless on an oysterflex?
Debating on getting one, or just getting a case through David.
