Is Racism really still happening?

Yes racism is still happening. As far as I know David Duke and Louis Farrakhan are still alive. Two of the more prominent racists in the land.

I went to a small incredibly diverse international school k through 12. I thought racism was a historical artifact. When I went to college at a state school I was floored by instances of blatant racism, I had no background with which to put it into context.

25 years later I still don't understand it.

As I am of Spanish ancestry (from Spain), white and blue eyed, I do not personally experience racism all that much in person.

I have noticed a few instances of dramatic changes in people on the phone when I tell them my name. Once responding to a job posting in the paper for a stock broker in San Diego (yeah, I'm that old) it was going great with the HR person until I told them my name, then they paused and said the possition had already been filled.

I remember vividly the relief in my ex wife's grandfathers face when he first saw me and that I was not brown. He is from a small town in Texas and loved to use the N word, but was apparently okay with me shagging his daughter. He was also a delegate for the GOP, just sayin'. But it was the independent nation of Texas, they don't like America and we don't like them.

I am deeply saddened that you and I live in a county where the 2 of us along with millions and millions of Americans and immigrants are subjected to racism on a daily basis.

I travel to Australia numerous times a year for business and I am proud to say Australians are not as racist as Americans.

I will pray for you and your family tonight.

Like most western countries have more than enough bigots who dislike Asians so do Asian countries have those who dislike us. Even some of those girls probably think the same way mate but they don't have a dislike of your money. The point I was making is racism is universal. Ask any Italian or Greek immigrant to Australia in the 50s and 60s what it was like. Far too many of them had the shit kicked out of 'em. I think the Irish copped much the same in the US earlier in the century.
