Although I am no longer a a watchmaker by profession, I do still repair watches. I am in WIlmington, NC and am willing to take repair jobs for anyone who needs it. I don't work on chronograph movements, though, but standard movements are no problem. I am cheap and would give complete estimates before doing any work.
The reaqson I am writing this is that I have seen numerous posts from people loooking for watchmakers, and, having been in the business I know how rare they are. WHen I started watchmaking school, there were 28 watchmaking schools in the US with an average enrollment of 24. Now there are 6 schools with an average enrollment of 6. We are a dying breed, yet mechanical watches are on a massive upswing.
So...I offer whatever services I can be to anyone near me, or willing to ship to me. Whatever help I can be, let me know.

Dave

Hello Dave,

Are you still working on reps? I have a PAM 312 with a non-running 7750.

She just stopped running one day. I believe she might be overwound and need a service.

Thanks,

Evan

We have a list of watchsmiths here on the site. Most guys like me send them off in the mail to the watchsmiths to be repaired. And some guys do have local ones too, but it's pretty rare I think to have local rep friendly watchsmiths. I have a good friend here in town that is a jeweler and watchsmith, but he will not touch anything that has to do with the movmement in my watches. So I use SpeedyG. he's one of the watchsmiths here and he's in chicago. Usually takes just 2 days to get to him. and there are several other smiths here too that are all good. so use any of them. I just recommend speedy because he's always done a great job for me, he knows what he is doing, and is very reasonable.

Sounds promising. They explicitly say they work on reps. Maybe I'll give them a try.

I know this is a dead thread but I would approach that cleanmywatch site with extreme caution. The numbers don't work, the "contact us" window says there's a recipient error. I'm on Long Island and looking for a good service guy too (for future). I tried to contact them about a store front. Impossible. Definitely don't send a watch there without contact. Duh!

I suggest not givng up finding a good local watchsmith. I searched for ages and ages. Found a few that would work on reps but they did sloppy jobs and left dust/fingerprints and whatnot on the watch dial/face/crystal.

The one I use now is awesome. Services ANY movement for reasonable prices and usually within 1 week turnaround. After the service you can immediately tell the difference in the operation just by how smooth the winding is and how the crown operates.

Because I found a good watchsmith this hobby has gotten much more enjoyable as I worry less about movements dying/DOA/breaking etc etc...and more time enjoying the watch.

P.S probably not tourbillions.......lol......he wont touch them.

I'm looking for a repair shop in Southern California/Inland Empire for my Panerai 111. I can wind it but can't change the time.
