Water resistant reps??

I have spent the past several hours scouring thru the search function getting threads of for sale watches when entering water resistant and water proof. Are all of the reps water resistant? Is it only some from certain dealers/builders? Anywhere that I can find a list of them?
Thanks

Simple:dealers write that most reps are WR. Why? Not sure but most likely because the place they get the watches say the same thing.
I recon that most reps can beome WR, but only after a spicific effort to Make it so.
Never assume that a rep is WR unless you had it done yourself or the member you Got it from had it done.

Good luck. Most dealers will claim a certain depth usually 30-50meters but it's always wise to have it checked at your favorite watch shop. I've had luck right out of the box with several. THIS IS NOT TO SAY YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME RESULTS. Some had work others were/are:
Rolex Sub 16610 fro RSH
Rolex ceramic noob factory
Rolex GMT from Darth Alex but he did his own work to it.
Rolex SD sealed HEV
Rolex pro hunter sub. Noob factory
Breitling blackbird
Breitling SOSF I had to epoxy mode the HEV
Panerai 243
Sinn U1
Omega UPO 45mm

Be very careful with HEV and do your self a favor. Pop the movement out and seal them up. Also make sure all your rubber ring seals are greased and the caseback is tight. Most common leaks come from poor caseback installation from factory and HEV.

So I could take it to a watch maker and ask for them to pressurize a rep without a problem?

Check them Out first most will pressure test anything. I approached my watch shop in town. A mom and pop shop NOT AND AD. NEVER TAKE YOUR REP TO AN AD OR WEAR IT TO ONE. Please do us all a favor. I said to him. Hey you ever get guys with reps in here. Which he mentioned he has come access a few. I asked did you ever work on them. He reply was "I'll work on anything I don't mind". I had my green light so to speak.

Most will tell you there not responsible for the crystal blowing off the front though. What were you thinking of picking up?

As the others have said, don't believe any dealer's claims about a watch being waterproof. While many rep watches will at least be water resistant (which basically means a splash won't hurt it), you wouldn't want to go swimming with it on.

Some dealers offer waterproofing service/testing as something you can pay extra for, but unless they're willing to provide photographic evidence of your watch being tested, don't bother. Even then, I'd still be skeptical.

Your best bet is to take it to a local repair shop (NOT an Authorized Dealer of genuine watches) and ask them to test it, and possibly perform some waterproofing if necessary. Then you'll know for sure.

Otherwise there are also members on this forum that will perform those services if you're willing to ship your watch to them.

There are some great threads here on RWI saying how to seal a watch effectively. A few tools, materials etc and it can easily be done if you're that way inclined. I've sealed quite a few of my reps very successfully and tested them with a DIY tester that is shown here:

I am looking to buy a Panerai or a Marina Militare. I am just starting my search since I just found this site today, but I am eager and a bit anxious to get my hands on one since I have been wanting a Panerai for a few years now.

Well you've picked for the most part an accurate brand of rep to buy.

Take your time. Most dealers stock the same watches. Pick something you like the research the hell out of it.

All the replica watches are indeed not water proof but water resistant between 50-300m. No replica allows the swimming or diving. If dealers claim their replica water proof, use your head. Never believe it.

Rolex replica is always the best and famous world with decent and precise design. You can consider and search such a brand as your first choice.

Judy Lee. Not entirely true. I swim hours long with my reps. No problems at all.

I am asking because I need something that I can wear to work which means it needs to be able to get wet when I wash my hands. I am going to go to my local watch repair shop and snoop around asking questions.

Not so.

Most sports reps are designed to be sufficiently water resistant to use for swimming. I regularly swim with AP, Corum, Ebel, Hublot, Patek, Breitling, B+R or Rolex.

They were mostly not water resistant out of the box, but some were. Have them pressure tested first to find out.
When not water proof out of the box that is because the assembly and QC mostly is pretty poor.

It is however true that some reps cannot be water proofed. I have a Cartier Pasha and a Porche Worldtimer which both look like they shoud be, but are not.

Choose a model you like, do a search on that and see if it brings up any issues.

And remember if a member has one which was perfect out of the box that was luck. It does not mean that yours will be OK to swim with unless it passed a test first.

Welcome here!! :) :)

i use a dealer whos not a td on here and he does a pressure test before he ships, if it passes i have no problem in diving swimming etc at the end of the day i use him for this reason, maybe if you asked a dealer whom ever you choose to do the same before you part with your cash to save you the hassle.

Your post is useful for me. Maybe i was no so lucky to get a water proof one. The rep i purchased was under 200 bucks. It was water penetrated after took a shower. I questioned the dealer and get the answer on WATER RESISTANT but not water proof. Is your rep with ETA or Asian 7750 movement, which can hold more water pressure?

No watch can be waterproofed, rep or not, if it was not built to be from inception. In fact, I will go as far to say, NO watch gen or otherwise is waterproof.

I had luck with most screw-in type of reps!A couple of first gen pams leaked water in but havent tried with the new ones!usaly i open the caseback and re-seal the gasket with mobius grease !The crown in pams is risky though !!
