Thanks Redheart! What's really nice is that it's been shaped/aged by Tripdog. I have a Tripdog tropical dial 5513, and he also did ageing/shaping work on my Franken spider dial 16610, so I feel privileged to be accumulating a nice collection of pieces that have been touched by the great man!

I look forward to following the progress of your 1675, as I work on mine too.

If you guys want to speed up the process of fading use drain cleaner. It's much stronger than bleach and works even on gen inserts.

But be careful some inserts fade in seconds !

The active chemical here is sodium hydroxide (caustic soda). I have absolutely no experience with ageing watches, but pure sodium hydroxide will strip the anodising off anything aluminium. It will also melt the aluminium if left in for long enough. Im guessing the concentration of this affects how quickly its aged. Just dropping a little science on yall :)

I usually use pure bleach, leaving 5 minutes the insert on bath, then a polishing with the 6000 grit sandpaper (2/3 turn between my fingers) then another 5 minutes bath in the bleach....and I repeat all till i have the result i want.....this is a longer way to do the work, but i prefer to control the fading step by step, “wearing” the insert on the watch testing the “look” for stop process when my eyes are satisfied;-)
Tomorrow morning i will go on with the Pepsi one.....
Now I have a little collection of inserts to match with my ties ;-)

Nice result with heat on the pepsi insert. Did the red fade to that lighter color with heat only or did you use some bleach too?

Over the years I've noticed that bleaches from different brands all fade inserts at different speeds... your insert doesn't look too bad but you got too heavy handed with the sanding - there shouldn't be too much of a fade on the inner diameter. 600 grit is a bit too rough, the purpose of sandpaper is to loosen spots on the insert during fading so when you dunk it back in the bleach it will melt away to produce a more even fade

Yodog, I did a great even fade on my milk insert and I noticed that if you wear a rubber surgical glove and you rub the insert you can see/feel right as the clear coat is Dissolving and if you can time it to get it out of the bleach seconds before the clear coat goes and into running water to rinse the bleach off because it’s going to continue activating even after rinsing if timed right it can get into the color spectrums that are truly original and go blue/green and raspberry that you will probably only be able to hit by timing right one in 10 tries where some clear coat residue still remains in areas around the insert that can be rubbed off or left if you like it. My next thought was to either find a great dial modder who uses clear coat and is a master of applying to spray a matte coat then slight gloss coat on top of it to really make it have that patina the most remarkable gen inserts tend to have. To me the missing clear coat is a knockoff for me an insert was artificially aged so I’ll probably try and find a pro to do a few first then start to learn myself because as well a poor applied clear coat is an immediate tell so hopefully it can be done realistically. Have you tried it ever?

I also have been trying to do the individual sides at different times to try and achieve say a way more faded blue and less faded red to not start going into that pastel pink color at all if I can manage but maybe Milk will offer some different shades in the future that fade in different tones. A less alloy looking blue and red would be really cool where the blue is like the blue color of the background of this tone of the reply I’m typing in now. (Not sure if you can even see this or if you can have settings make all colors for this but it’s a matte blue/gray and a deep dark raspberry red would be so cool to start from. One of my favorite gen inserts is a 80’s deep dark one I had to mod to even fit my pcg plexi 1675 as it was for a glass crystal 16750 but the dark colors I really dig even if it’s wrong for my watch so to speak. There are some old early mid 60’s darker inserts I love the most in the world but the colors you just don’t find in the aftermarket. I wish I could attach a pic here to show you but I may have to start a thread to do it.

Operation "fading insert" done!!!!! As suggested by yodog i used hot water and bleach....instead of 3000 grit sandpaper, i used a 600 with a very soft touch...;-)
The result, IMHO, is as i expected, not a perfect work (it is the first time!!! ;-) but acceptable.
And now some pics, total work needs 3/4 step of "bathing" and "smoothing" , 20 minutes for this kind of aging:

What a spot on job, looks great
