I used a 2.5mm gasket to lower the crystal on this clean116713 to get the magnification rifht. It comes with a 2.7mm if I recall correctly.

It has the original crystal but you should in theory be able to use a sub crystal but you might add some thickness to it as the sub crystal is marginally thicker than the GMT crystal.

As these are reps and not gens there are variations both in cases and aftermarket gaskets so best practice is to have a stack of gaskets and just try until you get a good fit and a magnification you're happy with.

I think I figured it out, I’m going to try fitting a DJ36 VSF Crystal with a 2.7mm gasket on a 126710! From reading the thread again I assume this would be a good fit.

Is there a preference between Clark or Esslinger gaskets?

Hi,

How are you able to reinsert the crystal retaining ring once the glass has been fitted with the new crystal gasket?

I took it to my jeweler to have him put it in front of me and he couldn't do it using the watch press, he said he would try something else but it might break the deep crystal. I don't know what he did but yes, he managed to fit it but it broke the deep crystal... I can get another one but I want to know if it requires special machinery or if I can do it myself at home somehow.

Thanks partners!

No preference, It must be a 295C-2 2.7mm height and just that

But a 5 digit explorer 2 bezel. It's the same diameter as the retaining ring. And use it to press down on the retaining ring with a press

The bezel needs to be removed ofc. Then you need a die (or metal ring substitute like a rep bezel) that clears the crystal but catches the retaining ring to press it over the crystal gasket.

Steps are the same for Sub and GMT, just some different parts under the bezel
6-digit Sub crystal and bezel swap

6-digit GMT bezel install sequence

I want to ask the god of gmt
If you don't use gen xtal
Which glass do you recommend the most?
I've been looking through your various posts and it's mostly gen xtal related so I'm a little confused
There are three watches I am waiting for after ordering
CLEAN 126710 sprite
CLEAN 116500 panda
CLEAN 126500 black
They are all the latest versions.
I ordered all three of deep extals, but there are comments that clean extals are better in gmt, and my head is complicated
Will gmt just use clean xtal?
And I'm going to order a clark gasket, do you have any height you can recommend?
I'd appreciate it if you could help me

I prefer Deep to CLEAN, no mistake in buying those. Get an assortment of gaskets and test fit to see what works best.

2.7 and 2.85 for GMT

2.3 for Daytona

Hi bro ;-) I haven't seen the recent Deeps for GMT, but I can tell you that the latest Cleans aren't bad, there's just too much magnification because the glass is high, I read somewhere that to lower it you need to work on the hands, do you confirm?

You can use a gen crystal gasket. But the CLEAN retaining ring may not seat easily (or at all) over it as gen gaskets are thicker and more dense than the POS rep gasket. So often a gen or gen-spec gasket (like Clark's) needs to be shaved some in width so the CLEAN retaining ring can be pressed on. Even then, the bezel may not rotate because the retaining ring may bulge out and impede it. Without a complete gen bezel assembly (bezel, insert, hytrel ring, click ring, flat washer, crystal retaining ring) it's a trial and error game to get all your parts mix to work together in an acceptable manner.

Those are gen-spec and as good as gen IMO. They are what I use exclusively if not using a gen.

But see my post immediately above your last post regarding gen or gen-spec gaskets being thicker than CLEAN gaskets. If you are doing this yourself, extra care needs to be taken with ceramic Daytona inserts. The 126x Daytonas aren't so bad because they have a metal surround but with 116x Daytona ceramics I always shave the gasket back a sliver and use silicone grease during a press.

Thank you for your kind reply. So if I just use Clean's gasket as it is and sand it to the right height, I don't need to do anything else? I will use deep glass

Gaskets can be shaved in height and in thickness (width).

In the post I referred you to I was talking about shaving the width. This may be needed for a GMT to allow the bezel to rotate, and for a Daytona so the bezel seats with less resistance to avoid cracking it.
