Thick White paint should give the chance to avoid the halo effect, while do not affect the color of the numbers?

I don't have any white paint to test, but I think the problem with white paint is that it will bring out more of the orange/red tones of the insert (and further lighten it). I base this on taking a pic of the insert on a white towel unmounted from the bezel...so not really the best test IMO, but does give some indication of color change. Pic of this is below. Black paint is on the left from 6-12, no paint on the right (but directly under the white towel). Also, I think the black paint does a nice job of removing the halo effect, especially if you paint the edges of the insert.

Two thoughts on this:

1. There's no light coming through the back once the insert is in the bezel, so the paint will have no effect.
2. If there was any light from the top side reflected through the insert, you'd need a colour that filters the unwanted portion of the spectrum. White reflects the full spectrum, so I'm pretty sure it's not even worth trying.

Thanks KJ. Yeah, I will definitely go with an oil based paint for the final paint job. The acrylic paint is great to experiment with because it dries in about 10 minutes and easily peels off the ceramic.

Cool experiments, quite sure if just snap the insert getting it out in the first place.

It’s starting to look like a v1 noob to me, hopefully you stay clear of those brown tones !

did you know that the pepsi gen bezel on the back is different from the batman gen bezel? ;-)

Yes :) actually CF changed their bezel on their "v2" release of the BLRO - now it's built like this too

Don't see the point of CF changing it. It makes no differences at all since their inserts are taped onto the bezel

The dark shrouds around the numbers are visible even where there is no paint so white paint isn't going to change that. That effect may not be apparent when the bezel is on the watch though.

Bro, CF bezels (Batman and Pepsi) have logo on back side? And back side is bi color like front?

Thank you very much

Just ran a couple more paint tests. However, this time I fully mounted the bezel back on to the case and seated the insert about 90% into the bezel (only 90% seated so I could remove the insert with a little piece tape placed around the bottom of the insert). As a result, the 2 videos below give a good IRL look at the effects of this "underside paint mod" IMO.

First Video: White acrylic paint on the left from 6 to the outer edge of 12 and no paint right. Change, if any, is negligible IMO.

Second Video: White acrylic paint on the left from 6 to the outer edge of 12 (same as above) and black acrylic paint from the end of 12 to 18.

What do you guys think now that the bezel is mounted on the case? I still see a subtle change in the red (ie slightly darker maroon shade) with the black paint underneath...which is a nice, albeit modest improvement IMHO.

This is the latest gen in SS on Oyster for reference, and has a very nice shade of red. Unfortunately it seems CF hasn't matched this type of red, but still interested in seeing the final product

I have the CF of this watch and the CF LN black. The CF Pepsi has so many different shades according to the light it's hard for me to say if it's gen like, it just looks great. However sadly I never wear either one, too many watches is a real problem gents,,,,

Agree bro I can see a difference in this still from your 2nd video. It looks like the white paint succeeded in toning down the halo at least but black does that and changes the hue to a more maroon shade, which also helps mask some of the dark shrouding around the numbers. It's a beneficial mod IMO, getting rid of the halo effect is worth it alone.

It is great that you managed to influence the shade of red, however the gen is not just darker nor is it maroon, it has a slight shade of blue in the red which makes it look like cherry or dark strawberry. I honestly don't know how colors mix with each other, but if you can try as many times as you like you may want to try with some shade of dark blue to see how it looks. Take a look at the pic of the gen above to see what I mean.

I agree with Tobel , in direct light the red of the gen insert has cherry or dark strawberry reflections, so I would try a dark blue-violet color mix, maybe it has a better result, or it gets worse, you should just try.

I actually tried silver paint early on because I happened to have it on hand. It didn't appear to have any effect. It's why I wasn't very optimistic about white paint having much effect either (and it didn't). I think what's going on is the insert already sits in a bed that is silver in color and partially covered by white adhesive tape applied by the factory. So anything close to these colors doesn't do much. All the black paint is doing is absorbing the light that makes it through the red portion of the insert and not allowing it to reflect back out...thus making the insert a shade darker in strong outdoor sunlight. That's my guess anyway as I'm by no means a lighting or photography expert.
