FWIW I rigged a hand drill to a drill press, and it worked perfectly (no broken bits!)

did you buy the drill press or borrow?

Thanks for your build tutorial. This has now motivated me to build a 5513 myself on the basis of a JKF. I have already written to Marvellous. It is important to me that:
1. It must be possible to switch the dial with a gen (26mm diameter)
2. The mount of the bezel should clamp like gen - without the bezel wire assembly

He coudn't answer me this questions. Can anyone tell from the picture if this is the perfect JFK base?

shitty video quality and I cringed when the guy touched the movement...
but you get a nice look at the case
Great vid but I would not use a bezel knife directly even on a steel rep case without using a cloth or tape to protect the case. He has a lot more skill and confidence than I do lol the way he just man handles it.

I would not even dare handle a dhgate rep this way
I thought it was a rep at first but then realized he was working on a gen 5513. Definitely not this guy's first rodeo lol..

for some obscure reason I ordered from Trusty and probably overpaid

I will report here if I get something different

Nice base, but the lugs and the crown guards will bother you if you don't work on the chamfers of lugs,
Weiden the crown guards and give them a slightly softer angle from case side.
Just bought an Ali Sub case for 17 $ and after working on it, it does't look that bad.

Here we go. Takes 2824 or NH35/38. Still need to widen the crown guards a little, but for that money it's not bad if you want to invest a little work.

I am in the process of gathering parts for a 9411 build and since I was not impressed by Athaya's crown I started looking at other options. Imo the quality decreased significantly from previous versions (stamping, judging from the pictures). Other than that it is not a 1:1 copy of a 702 crown and I found the spring/clutch a bit wonky. All of this and the fact that you have to pay high shipping and taxes has really made me wonder if it is really the better option. Of course if you want a crown that resembles the original 702, then it is the only option other than going gen.
I found a nice enough 703/704 crown on Aliexpress for around €20 (it is labeled as 703, but it is not crimped, same as Athaya's crown) and giving the fact that RSC often replaced crowns on old subs I decided to give it a go. I also ordered a gen spec tube and later found out that another tube was included with the crown. Just putting it out there in case someone wants another option.

These can be found easily and I will not put links since they will likely become dead in the short term.

Thanks for an excellent tutorial. I'm just getting back into the rep watches and I love the subs & sea dwellers. I read a thread a few weeks ago about someone using coffee grounds and their oven to "bake" a sub dial to give it a tropical look. Does anyone here remember or have a link to that thread? Thanks

Very nice tutorial, thank you.

I will try the bezel fading technique with bleach this evening. Will post some progress pictures later this week.
