Raffles case is perfect for what it is - a kit to cut your vintage teeth on, that’s tough to mess up. Crystal pops right out with your fingers for a swap, or you can mess around with scratching it up. Dial is cheap to learn how to age it. Plenty of case material to shape and learn with. Takes an NH movement. If you’re trying to learn the process, it’s a great case to start with. If you want genlike OOTB then look elsewhere.

That being said it is hands down the most fun build I’ve ever done. It’s so cheap I didn’t care if I messed anything up. I was sloppy with aging the dial and hands, tossed an NH38 I had laying around in it, and threw the whole thing in a bag of spare change to age it up. Learned how to work with octagonal bezel rings with this build as well as crystal swaps. If you want a beater 5513 build that will scratch the itch and is fun as hell to mess with then look no further. I’ll save the gen 5512 dial for the bivintage case when it gets here.
Yeah I coudnt say it better.. it perfect as a low cost trainie case..

btw: no vintage caseset is perfect ootb, even not bv or other viet supplier

Can you shape it to gen look though?
That's ultimately the most important part once you have some practice shaping and ruining a few cases. That's another reason why the Raffles 1675 is so nice.

I don't really mind the paper clip, spring type bezels if the case is nice enough. Some of them are more sturdy than the genuine. I got a cheap BP 16610 a while ago, and I love the shape and it's construction. The bezel construction is not anywhere near genuine, but it's a beast and I know it's not going anywhere.

Point is, I don't think the Raffles sub here can be shaped to genuine. But I have seen some impressive stuff from people here, so nothing would surprise me. Just saying, if a watch does not really have potential for a genuine-type finish, needs a lot of work, might not even have the same dial opening/rehaut, I'm out. I've got too projects, and the crown guards look too hard to correct. Remind me of a NH35 Ali-X case.

Agree on Raffles sub cases. The lugs and rehaut are too much to deal with. You’d have to put material back on the lugs to look like a sub. I’ve used that case for a 16710 build because I think it looks more like that than a sub

I've thought about buying a BP 16710 rep if I can find one and swapping the dial over for just that reason.

1680 and 5512 were processed for case processing practice.

Swapped out the stock Raffles crystal for the AliEx option someone on here posted. It doesn’t fit the stock crystal gasket so I just UV glued it in place. Had to do the same with the stock crystal as it just laid in there. Dunked it in some water and no bubbles anywhere so it’s at least shower and maybe pool proof. For the cost of an NH38 who cares? While I was at it I bleached the bezel insert. First time attempting and I think it turned out ok. I had scuffed up the insert previously so the bleach really brings that out. I didn’t want to go full on ghost bezel but this is kinda close. This one is done!

Awesome
Next time you do the dunk test, remove the movement and close the watch 😂

It takes 1min and can avoid you having to rebuild a watch with a new movement

It's going to be too long by the look of it, but I think the cutout in the movement ring is also blocking it - remove the ring and make the cutout deeper using a file. Clean off the metal shavings from the ring afterwards.

I just need to share this
specially the case work

I wouldn't recommend following his method, he did just about everything wrong, it was painful to watch.
Chamfers are the last thing you do, they clean up the edge of the case where brushed meets polished.
Don't polish metal with diamond paste, use the correct medium, don't use a chopstick to hold your silica carbide paper - and use SC paper instead of whatever it was he was using.

sounds like you may have misaligned the keyless works. Quite easy to do on a Asian 2824s You will most likely need to reset the yoke on the sliding pinion.

there is a lot of room still between the movement ring and the stem, but i disassembled it to make sure and still doesnt get in.. i think that the little button that locks the stem in is blocked but im not sure... any idea how i could try to unblock it?

Hi gang! Does anyone know if you need anything else to install an Athaya 702 crown onto a viet build? Or is it just a simple switch for any watchmaker as long as they have the crown and tube?

The athaya crown should fit the existing tube.
