I saw very little difference in the TC dial and hands with the newer BP dial. The lume is pretty much the same and unless you're looking through a loupe there's not much difference in the dial. I'd just do a little work on the crown guards and put in a gen insert and call it done. If the crown starts to get flakey, as they are known to do, put in a new gen crown and WSO tube.
I ended up selling my BPSD with TC dial and hands and kept my old modded SSD with the BP dial and hands swapped into it. Even kept the clone movement and let the ETA movement go in the BP model. It seems to keep just as good time and it "takes a licking and keeps on ticking" at work using every thing from Sawzalls, hammer drills, to chipping hammers. Plus they were both very beach and pool friendly.
Spending $600 or more modding them doesn't make much sense to me. You don't really get that much more bang for you buck on these particular watches since they're so nicely made out of the box.
