I have one of these with the ICHS and the DG3804 movement with the ETA date window and believe me on the wrist you don't even notice.
get one of these and drop in a VR movement, or just run it till it breaks and then drop in a VR movement and you have a fine watch.
Or just get one from Uncle Bob for $15k and stop fussing

One should always check the threads before ordering! Alas I did not.. And gen dial, bezel and datewheel on the way as well... Was hoping for a fantastic build (I'm spoilt with a TC sub case..., thought this would be the same).. Anyway, when all the parts arrive I'll let you know how I go and what does and doesn't fit.. Shocking they don't state whether bezel is gen mechanics or not.. Wonder if I'm in time to cancel?!

After having spent the night burning the midnight oil researching the 16710 AFTER I purchased a Rep... I've come to an interesting conclusion... Why not use a ST sub case for the GMT??! I mean, the bezel assembly is the same size as gen, although the clicks only go one way on the case as a pose to the GMT.. but everything else is almost spot on, certainly better than the current rep. And it would save duplicating costs on getting a substandard 3135 movement and going straight to the VR.. Ops.. 3185. But you know what I mean. Knowledgeable modders, can you chime in on my "discovery"? Or am I just late to the party? For clarity, I've only ever worked with subs, this is my first foray into GMT world, so please pardon my noobness :)

The diminutive crown guards on the ST case just won’t do.

You need to find out if the stem heights are different between 3135 and 3185 movements, and I believe they are. If so, then using a 3185 movement in a 3135 case might not work.

That looks like the old BP16710 case with remachined internals to accept the clone movement. Case is too thick, CGs are terrible - same as the old case.

.

I would say to do yourself a huge favor and order a Viet Nam case from tripdog and be done with it. You'll have to wait a bit but it's plug & play after you receive it. My completed Pepsi build is a 16710 VN case I shaped myself and the VN case from Tripdog came ready to assemble which I'm working on now. He does the hard stuff for you. They're not cheap but they're absolutely worth the money if you want a super nice 16710. My pepsi in the pic is all gen except for the case.

I'd quit while you're ahead. I spent about a year having the same ideas and guess what I ended up building with the sub cases? I'll give you a clue.... it wasn't GMT's

Thanks all for pointing out my Noobness! Yes, that pesky crown height issue rears it's ugly head! I'm catching up on 2 years worth of 16710 posts and learning a lot along the way.. Funny thing, sourcing the original parts was done over a weekend and without breaking the bank.. but finding a cost-effective case seems to be the sticking point. Thanks to Hor-Fan for pointing me in the direction of a Viet case.. may be the magic bullet! And Tripdog, there's a PM for you about sorting the case out.. :)

Either of the two posts above present dealbreaker reasons for not being able to do what you suggest. Have you seen the thread on Viet cases? Triplock just built an awesome 16710 using one. Another option is buy an old gen 16570 case and use it as a Franken base.

Thanks KJ2020, you're always on top of it! One small thing on the Viet case is the rehaut. They seem too thick to me and would need to be shaved down. It is the best case as you don't have to deal with modifications.

Love it! What are your plans with it? Considering getting the same myself, but I hate those fat lugs and chamfers. It definitely needs some case work.
