It won't take a gen-spec insert without the outer perimeter being shaved. Sometimes you can do that without eating into the numbers but I wouldn't do that with a gen insert.

Approx measurements ID / OD

Gen 30.6 / 37.65
BP 30.6 / 37.5

16710 with tripdog VN case. Hybrid movement started out as a VS3135 and converted to 3185 GMT using VR parts. Finished with gen balance & bridge and auto-wind system, gen dial, gen insert, gen hands. Runs perfectly @ +4 spd @ 280+ amplitude with 0.0 BE.

How do you shave the insert to remove the material regular circular way? Cheers

Tape 600 grit sandpaper onto a flat bench. Hold the insert by hand on edge and swipe roll it toward you in 1/6 of a circle arcs. Count the swipes (~10) then advance to the next arc, overlapping a bit. Angle the insert slightly to remove more material from the underside first so you don't scar up the visible surface. Measure OD and width often to make sure you aren't too heavy handed in only one sector. Test fit to the bezel and when ready use a Sharpie to re-color the edge.

Thanks so much, I ordered the watch and one gen insert and now I realized it must be shaved..

As for the bezel? Also shaving de outter diameter would be an option to be closer to gen?

Thanks again

The BP bezel OD is OK, but it is wider than gen (ID is less) and it has deeper scallops. What would need to happen on the BP bezel is some material removed from the inner rim but you can't take much off without eating into the scallops.

If you meant 16710, no. The case (and bezel/insert) doesn't look different from the old BP though, where the insert is smaller than gen-spec. The BPs have no space to speak of above or below the numbers like the gen does.

It would be great to find out differently when you get into building yours. I still have 3 or 4 of them and have had my fill of messing around with the 8 sided wire clip bezel and straight edge (non gen-spec) crystals. I keep them because they are fun little beaters to customize with various insert and hands combos but am not interested in modding one much further since I have a gen.

I always appreciate the work and skill that goes into making something great out of a cheaper rep so more power to ya if you can pull it off.

I have little drive at the moment and my watchmaker no longer loves me because he builds a 116500 for me, and I can't get enough of my 116520

And an original bezel ring will fit in the BP case? Are this rings easy to find?
