A member sent me one of these BP GMTs for some case work. It's been a while since I worked on one of the older 16710/DG/2836 GMTs from BP, the case isn't exactly the same, but it's very very similar.
Good points:
Bracelet, clasp/blades are nicely done, good brushing, stampings are well done.
Hands are OK, GMT hand could be better.
Dial is very nicely done with crisp, sharp glossy white (not grey/washed out) raised printing, lume is the correct color - not polar white like the older reps. Indices shape is pretty good too.
Date wheel isn't bad, printing is a little fat, could be sharper.
Crown shape & dimensions are OK, but coronet could be better.
Case back stampings are pretty good.
Bad points:
Brushing on the case.
Case shape in general - esp' CG's.
Those awful chamfers.
Rehaut is too deep.
Crystal on this one wasn't pressed in.
Bezel scallops are huge.
Whole bezel/rehaut/crystal assembly - crystal sits inside the rehaut, diameter is 30.5 mm. Bezel ring is held in place with a wire clip, bezel action is terrible, lots of lateral movement and the clicks feel like you're snapping puppies' femurs as you rotate the bezel.
Laser engraved between lugs.
Insert is 37.4mm and is a loose fit, a gen insert will not fit in without a little sanding
Case is 13.4 mm thick, from crystal to case back - gen is about 12mm / 12.2mm, depending on the crystal gasket used. Case sides are 5.3mm, gen would be about 4.7mm, depending on how many times it's been refinished.
As it is it doesn't look very convincing, those CGs, the ridiculous chamfers and the 80 grit brushing on the tops of the lugs make it look like what it is - a China made watch.
Before pics:
After:
Watch is now 12.2 mm thick, case sides are 4.85 mm, bezel action addressed (no lateral movement, no snapping puppy femurs, although it's still nothing like the gen bezel), rehaut lowered as much as can be done) everything polished, brushed, CGs and lugs reshaped.
It's still a tiny bit thick around the case sides, looks closer to a 16760 Fat Lady, but I'd happily wear it now, whereas before I wouldn't have.
