Responding to your point sk786 about Frankens simply because that's what is most interesting to me about this hobby (but not to keep beating my opinion into anyone else's head, just to be clear), I agree.
Some gen parts are a good "investment" alone. For example, I have a bluesy franken and I've spent "too much" on it for it being a rep... but i can sell the gen parts for more than I paid for it most likely. Maybe not now, but in a few years and with some patience. The dial, insert, and bezel are what made it make sense to me.
I think the value proposition really does matter when building frankens. But then again, what value means to each person is subjective.
Mate I totally get what you're saying. But can you or for that matter anyone please explain to me in what world a 6K rep makes makes sense when the gen can be had for marginally more?? Clearly when sfbatman787 aka mister money bags can afford it!
$6K for a Nautilus superfranken makes sense because the gen is on avg $60k on the grey, and unless you're a sheikh or a footballer you aging getting one at retail, because most of them can't either.
