I really would just by the gen with all those mods. You're going to pay a shit load of money for something that still will be a rep in the end. Especially if you're going for the gen movement.

Agreed, you could do all those and just add a good ETA gen movement... that performs as good as Rolex and the same longevity and save a lot of money.

You realise Akilles is trying to say to you that you're wasting your money right?

If you build a super franken like that, you're likely to only be £1k maybe even less, better money wise than a gen. But it's a rep... so you cant get it insured. You can't send it to Rolex for repairs. You're spending 80-90% of the same money but getting an inferior product. With no after market support.

Pay the extra 10-20% get the gen and have all the perks associated with that... no fake case / bracelet.

DJ41 is 'fan favourite' anyway, so they won't devalue massively.

I can't see any advantage of you doing what you're doing other than saving maybe £1-2k but if you're prepared to drop £5-6k on a watch... you can drop the extra £1-2k and have a way better watch...

Anyway, don't need to beat a dead horse here. End of the day if you're happy, that's fine.

Really, I didn't realize it, (sarcasm), if you couldn't pick it up. Not my first rodeo and I got it covered. Thanks for your 2 cents.

sfbatman787 Granted I'm no one to judge how someone spends their money, but mate if you have that kind of money to through away, mind throwing some my way?

On a serious note, would you please enlighten me with your reasoning, because I can't seem to wrap my head around it...

Lol work hard and you will have more money to play around and wouldn't have to ask people.

But on the side note, it bothers me how some of the members here are picking at members who are complaining about SELs and other aspects of the watch. I have been in this game for decades. If it wasn't for us nitpicking these watches, factories would still be selling you the cheap canal version watches. Don't dis people because they are pointing out flaws and act all like you know everyone background and you know better than they do.

These reps have achieved the same price point as some gen watches. They just don't say Rolex on them, but asking for consistency, especially in today's world, isn't too much to ask.

Can most of us buy gen watches, sure! But is it more fun and thrilling to find parts and build watches from scratch and through this journey meet great people and build friendships, heck ya!

So people need to act less snobby here and let people enjoy this hobby.

I mean there's just so much wrong with your post and attitude. People here are posting to help you, because apparently you're happy to spend £6k on a rep... and not £7.5k on a gen.
If you can't see the problem in that, well... then I give up on that front.

Anyway lets move onto the rest of your post.

You talk of consistency, pretty hard to do when your factory can be raided at anytime. Machines are bought second hand from CNC works, that break. Moulds and casts that have been created change / get lost / get confiscated by the authorities.

We're not talking about a factory that is producing things legitimately, these factories are raided by Chinese authorities. The processes are done in secret, behind closed doors, perhaps employees that were able to craft an item... suddenly change to another factory. This is not manufacturing as it is the West nor even in the East, legal manufacturing that is.

Manufacturing processes that were done before, might not be done again. It's one of the main reasons earlier in this thread someone was asking if they should wait till v3. My reply was.

"No, you never know what might happen. ARF might close down... v3 might be worse" etc etc.

Low and behold, v3 comes out and there's a new set of issues.

Also we're not getting annoyed at nit picking at all. Nit picking is fine, as you say it pushes the game forwards.

However, what does not help is SEL's being mentioned every 3 seconds, nor date wheel. THEY ARE KNOWN.

If this was new, everyone would like more information. For example Robi01 clearly pointed out the new SEL on the v3 model could be a potential issue, we're still waiting to see more in the flesh to determine whether that is a real concern or not.

But do you know what doesn't help? Asking if the SELS on v3 are fixed for the 100th over. That is what I get annoyed about and as does any regular contributor to this thread. We all stay here because we like to help genuine people with genuine questions. But spamming the same shit over and over and over and over and over, gets tiresome. Particularly when those individuals could just flick through the last 20-30 pages and get every single answer to every single question themselves.

And lastly you say "act less snobby" whilst posting with such a ridiculous attitude. I mean really? I know I'm a dick, but apparently you don't seem to know you are.

My post was indirectly talking about you and I am glad you picked it up. Whatever you can be, I'll top it. With that said, you wish I had more time for you to go back-and-forth.

But I am going to let the topic go back to discussing the watch.

sfbatman787 Clearly you don't understand sarcasm, so I'll allow my credentials to speak for themselves, I'm a 30 year old serial entrepreneur with 2 businesses that design, manufacture, market and distribute luxury goods: fashion apparel. So its safe to say I've got money, but I'm not daft!

I don't need your money but I sincerely think you're better of giving it to me considering what you're planning on doing with it.

Sonofalich has pretty much covered it, but I will add this, take it from some one who deals with luxury goods manufacturing on a daily basis, we are far from perfect, because where there is human intervention there is the risk of human error. This risk increases with luxury goods because the degree of human intervention is a lot higher because it's mostly hand crafted. Despite employing a 4 stage QC protocol and our AQL ( acceptable quality level) standard is extremely high but still we have to allow for human error, because humans aren't perfect.

As to 'reps achieving gen watches'; that what happens when you attempt to build a 6k rep!!!

All said and done nothing of what you've said explains why on earth you' d build a $6k rep??The cost differential just doesn't make sense. A 6k superfranken Nautilus sure, but a DJ come now.

Finally I'm sure you're 'winning attitude' is making you a lot of friends.

Sonofalich I don't think you're a dick, after that reply I think you're quite smashing!!

Well I saw in another post you mentioned something about having multiple 3235s and your friend being a watch maker... so maybe you have some hook up. I also understand the joy and pursuit of collecting parts and having it built.

Still seems like an unwise choice, but I do get it. For example, I'm seriously considering paying $165 just to get ARF hands relumed to match the gen dial. Kinda stupid, but as I said, I get it lol.

Responding to your point sk786 about Frankens simply because that's what is most interesting to me about this hobby (but not to keep beating my opinion into anyone else's head, just to be clear), I agree.

Some gen parts are a good "investment" alone. For example, I have a bluesy franken and I've spent "too much" on it for it being a rep... but i can sell the gen parts for more than I paid for it most likely. Maybe not now, but in a few years and with some patience. The dial, insert, and bezel are what made it make sense to me.

I think the value proposition really does matter when building frankens. But then again, what value means to each person is subjective.

So well said, I had tried very hard to resist to comment so far. This person comes and comments (even though I didn’t ask for feedback) on my overseas (pics was from an angle) about the cross and 12 markers. Despite me telling that I have other pics, goes on to comment again. I am not sure if the person has even seen a single JJF overseas in hand (i have 3) but feels the urge to comment :picard:

I am all for helping other members but can’t stand negativity when it is uncalled for.
