That may I add is total personal preference mate. I wouldn't throw those statements around like you always do.

I personally would prefer a well built all in Bluesy than a shady gen like the one you linked any day. I've had 8-9k in my first build and I loved it more than any gen I ever had.

Remember you can hand pick the parts and build exactly to your expectations and likings. Which you definitely cannot do when buying a gen. If the money you loose on an eventual sale doesn't hurt you and you enjoy building, I do not see any reason not to build, no matter how much the gen costs or how bad you're breaking in the budget of a gen.

Should I buy any gen parts for my y3135? I've seen posts saying to do so and some saying that it only needs servicing. If so, what parts should I get?

personally I'd be on the lookout for a gen movement Ive seen them going for around £1100, I know its a big step up from a serviced Yuki but if you are throwing that kind of money into a build then it seems like the right thing to do

I haven't seen any around. If I did, I would go gen.

I was considering getting one to upgrade my frankenjust but in that watch it's bringing total build cost to gen price so not worth it but for a sub then if you can find one then would be well worth it IMNSFHO

Is a 3135 that came out of a DJ the same for a sub? I assume so but I just want to clarify because I might be able to get one.

Yup. They're the same.

Maybe a dumb question, but I've been looking around and can't really find any recipe for a good "budget" (relative term) Bluesey.

I've been on a "sentimental" watch kick lately and the bluesey has a lot of fond memories for me of visiting watch shops in college and drooling at them in the window.

That being said I just don't have $2-5k to drop on a build right now. I'm ok with gen dial, serviced Yuki 3135, modded TC case, etc. which takes me north of $1k I know but where the rubber really hits the road cost-wise for these seems to the gold bezel and bracelet. The WSO bezel alone seems to be the cost of a decent gen dial! Are any of the non-gold options for these worthwhile (besides finding someone to part out a WM9 which seems unlikely) or is this one just out of my league?

My Franken 16613 just arrived today. It came on a nice rep bracelet with sel's which I'm not in love with. So I threw on this gen jubilee that I had on a franken DJ, what do you guys think? Ive never really seen a sub on a jubilee, but I kind of like the look and it feels great!

WSO does have plated stuff but as far as I can remember those are hit or miss. Considering you're from Cali, it will be living at hot temperature and high air conditions. The plating will most likely fade pretty quick.

I've seen some WSO plated ones that held up okay and some were catastrophal. Please keep in mind the best they hold up is only 'okay'. You won't get any better than 'okay' with plated stuff.

I hope you do keep in mind the Yuki with a service will run you easy $600-$700 eventually more. Don't think servicing a yuki will be a $50 thing. Those movements need a full teardown service and a lot of gen parts in them to run anything close to stable.

Why don't you just scout for a WM9?

+1 Agreed

I think I have also come to this conclusion.... Initially was going to try a build however the money isn't the issue for me but more my lack of knowledge and being able to source the relevant parts so I feel I may just hold out for a WM9... I hope one comes up sooner rather than later..

That's going to be tough if you're starting a 16613 build from scratch. If you want it done right, it'll be $3k - $4k. Mine is going to cost about $4k when it's all done but the only things that won't be gen is the movement (yuki 3135 serviced with gen parts), TC case and bracelet (WSO or ST bracelet with full gold).

I'm not sure what cases/movements accept wm9 parts (other than wm9 of course) but if you find out, I have a wm9 dial, insert, hands, dwo.

I personally wouldn't use a jubilee but it's all about what you like best. If I used anything other than a 93153 or 93253, I'd use a blue rubber strap or a similar TT bracelet like the 78363. But if you like it, that's all that matters.

QueTip sherm great advice, gents. Appreciate it. Looks like my eyes are just bigger than my wallet on this one for the time being. I'll lay low and scout and WM9 for now while I mull over my options.
