Jake, I use my Dremel for everything. Would it be easier to "FIX" the Dremel to a workbench and offer the bezel up, giving you both hands to guide and buff down the ODR?

? from AlFru'z iphone 5 on tapatalk ?

Yeah, I think that might work better but the ceramic bezel was a slippery little sucker and I found it easier to clamp the insert flat and work the dremel around the insert instead of trying to move the insert around the cutting wheel.

Plus, in the usual style of doing my "little" projects I got a little carried away when I picked up the insert and started grinding on it and saw that I was actually taking a little off. I didn't want to stop and kinda rushed through it. Taking the time to set up a steadier way to clamp the Dremel might just work better as long as you can figure out how to hold the insert steady.

How much did you lose? Just a light few passes or did you remove actual girth on the ODR mate?

I ground off very little. Probably about .3 mm from the OD.

BTW - Just received an email from the QC Dept of InTime! The date on the watch was set at lucky number 7 so I told them to send it! lol

Looks awesome - can't wait...

Be great to hear your opinion on it buddy, and thanks for the info re grinding the bezel. Ordered a Panis from ebay to practice on

And yes, I know the hour marker rings are too thick, the hour hand is too fat, the SEL gap is too wide, the insert alignment is off, the Crown on the clasp isn't crisp enough, the rehaut etching isn't dark enough, the bezel insert engraving isn't deep enough, the color on the bezel numbers is wrong, the date wheel is off, the bezel teeth aren't sharp enough, the dial font spacing is off by a RCH, the pearl isn't pearly enough, the silver isn't silver enough and the black isn't black enough.
Hahahaha

But I still can't wait to enjoy this watch.

Rad - The insert I ground down was for my Trevor DSSD. I swapped the flat top insert it came with for a BP insert (I think) that had the rounded top triangle. the new insert was too large in diameter and would not fit down into the bezel.

I used a Dremel and tried several different types of grinding wheels. Metal and stone grinding wheels did nothing... I had success with a thin fiberglass reinforced cutting wheel similar to this:

I only had too remove a smal amount from the OD of the insert and it was a very tedious process. I used the edge of the cutting wheel at high speed and it took about 6 wheels to complete the job as they wore down almost as fast as the ceramic - but it worked...

Be careful and do not force the issue. I ran the disc across the top of the insert once and lightly scratched the insert, but got lucky and was able to polish out the scratches with some Flitz and a buffing wheel set on high speed.

Good luck!

Thats really weird, Ive got a Trevor DSSD and wanted to fit a BP insert in it too, but while the insert fits the bezel diameter wise, its way too thick.

Do you think ill be able to mill the thickness using your method?

I do have a diamond cutoff wheel somewhere, for my dremel.

Nothing "Weird" - As I posted - I said "I think" it was a BP insert - it was a quite a while back and I don't remember exactly where it came from, but that really isn't the point is it?

The ceramic insert I had was too big. I ground down the OD with a dremel and now it fits...

Right. So do you think one could reduce the thickness of a creamic insert using your method?

Install diamond cutoff wheel on Dremel

Plug Dremel in

Turn Dremel on

Touch diamond cutoff wheel to insert

You will have your answer in less than 20 seconds

Thankyou Jake.
maybe i should have rephrased that....
Do you think one could reduce the thickness of a ceramic insert using your method without ******* it up?

How would you go about holding the insert while grinding it on that surface

Dave, i was thinking of some kind of wooden dowel, just s fraction thicker than the IDR. Slide bezel on securely, and turn the dowel / bezel onto the fixed dremel. Far more control me thinks?

Rad - Come on bud. How am I supposed to answer that? Do I think someone using a diamond cutting wheel spinning at 37,000 RPM, pressed against a slippery hardened ceramic surface can F it up?

Of course you can!!! But hey, isn't that half the fun? If it was easy and anyone could do it, what fun would it be and where would the reward be for your efforts?

Generally speaking, the greater the risk/effort the greater the reward...

I can't tell you about diamond cutting wheels because I didn't try one. I tried metal and stone and it didn't do squat. I used a fiberglass reinforced cutting wheel and it worked. It took quite a few wheels, but it did work.

The best advice I can give you is to s l o w down. Pressing a cutting wheel being spun by a high speed Dremel against a hardened slippery surface is a recipe for disaster no matter what wheel you use. Go easy and take it in little steps. Start by applying light pressure than increase the pressure. If you are pressing super hard, than it is not working. The material should come off with minimal pressure. The speed of the wheel should do the work.

Could you screw it up? - of course you can.

Almost forgot - I used a plastic clamp and clamped the insert to the corner of my wood work bench and ground on the part hanging over the edge. Some of it I did by just holding the insert in my hand. Surprisingly enough, unlike metal that can get red hot when it is ground down, the ceramic stayed relatively cool.
