I also have the DSL401 1x12 combo....bad ass Marshall too....Sounds just like the DSL100 1/2 stack.

Shitty pic but I have to round up some better ones.

Depending on the venue depends on whether I use the 1/2 stack or the combo..either way I sound the same :woot:

I bought a new classic vibe '52 (check these out, they're getting amazing reviews. Nice alnico pups... I like it better than my new MIM) and did some work to make it look like a '52 strat. I can't stress enough to check out one of the Squire 50's or 60's custom vibe strats. They are incredible guitars for not much over $350.

all hardware was given the acid treatment

replaced knobs and pup covers with parchment and aged them

the headstock refinish was very difficult for me. I was very lucky to keep my patience and wound up really happy with the end result.

getting there.. a few more light coats

more coating needed...

here it is almost done... I don't even have finished pics in my photobucket. I can take some finished pics if anyone cares to see it as it stands now.

at the same time (a few months ago) I also picked up a brand new standard strat with flame maple top in vintage cherry burst. Shes the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen.

P4GTR that is bad ass...I mean BAD BAD ASS.....You did a beautiful job, just beautiful. You got it down good...see NIB guitars.....nope not me.

IMO the MIM Strats, a lot like my 1998 Shechter C1 Plus, the fit, finish, wood and overall guitar is really really good. The Achilles heel is the electronics i.e the jack, the 5way, the pups and pots...IMO if u buy one that has the look and neck u dig....the above mentioned shit is replaceable and THAT will make you a pro, road worthy Strat. Who can gimme an AMEN?

I wish I knew back in 86-88 when I had 2 MIJ Strats what I know now..

Ironic that the way I understand it those MIJ's were straight out of the Tokai factory after it got nuked by Gibson. The MIJ's are just insane. Oh well, live and learn it was a LONG time ago.

Awesome stuff guys. I don't play live any more but still have most of my stuff. The synths are long gone and I traded the blue Ibanez hollowbody for a newer neck through prestige RG then traded that for a Gibson faded V then traded that for an Orange Tiny Terror half stack

Some of my amps (also used to have a Lany GH50L that I never should have sold)

I've also been playing around with effects but don't have a picture of the monster pedalboard :eek:hwell:

@P4GTR, that's a nice modded strat. How many coatings did you finish with the headstock? Looks out of the California factory haha.

A number of Charvels here. Do you guys prefer them over, say, ESP or Ibanez?

Sheesh, not one Yngwei Strat? I play scalloped guitars exclusively so I had to by it the very first year it came out.

I carved out my own from a hunk of Honduran mahogany which I modeled after Eddies Kramer but mine's scalloped.

What do you prefer with the scalloped frets? As you can see from my photos above I have a 1972 Jap Strat which is what Yngwie played before his signature came out. I've fitted hot stacks and fast volume pot but never got around to scalloping it yet!

Wicked...just wicked. I modded my 93 American Standard that I call "Jake". It seems a popular look.

As you can see. I prefer maple finger board necks...always have.

That is a Chandler pickguard and the 2 Duncan Designed H102's that were in my 98 Schecter C1 Plus. I added a 3 way switch, All Parts knobs....I bought this Strat in 2000 from my uncle for $500 LOL...It was one of those Guitar Center packages he bought. A Strat, a Crate G20C, stand, chord, pics and books LOL. I modded it 8 years ago and since we are rehearsing again, i'm gonna swap some SD's in it soon. The loaded pic guard (pups, pots etc) is in my "mutt" Tokai/Charvel pictured above.

You guys have a TON of cool gear. I have never owned a scalloped neck guitar, played a few, know the pro's and con's of them but those are bad ass looking. I am stoked on this thread y'all.

Playing a scalloped fretboard is like playing on air. You never touch wood with your finger tips. I hate touching the fretboard. It makes for a much greater feel of the notes, and you have to be gentle because if you press too hard it will be out of tune. This very light touch awareness makes for faster fingers. Also when you want to dig into a chord you can really make it sound thicker by pressing harder to create a bit of vibrato or modulation. You can hear Yngwei do this a lot. Tone comes from your fingers and pick attack. Ritchie Blackmore is also a great example of great tone and playing rock using scalloped guitars. Check out Rainbow Rising 1977 World Tour live album. One of my fave https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsHvG8_3o-Q

I have had a lot of different gear over the years and love the Marshall sound of Angus Young but I have gravitated to Mesa/Boogie over the years and am currently down to two Boogies, a Studio 22 and a 50/50 rack.

Check out this montage of my fastest frenzied solos from select original album songs I wrote in the 90's (I have a lot of influences LOL). I am a musician.

Well, if you know Yngwie then you know Richie Blackmore is an influance (Inspirations) of his. He said that is where he got the technique from I do believe. I have known a few guys who use em....just not me. It would be cool at 50 :)rofl:) to get one and rip it..

I'm very tempted to scallop an old Squier of mine to try it out! I've been a big blackmore and yngwie fan for years even though I'm only a young guy (23). I'm not an AC/DC fan as I find it too pentatonic, but that's subjective

Thanks bud. I used guitar reranch sprays. I got both Fender neck amber and the tinted clear coat. I think I used mostly the tinted clear coat and built up a lot of layers, probably 7-10? I let the headstock cure, then I used the 3M headlight restoration kit. It's a multitude of orbital pads and paste that you use with a drill like a buffing machine. You can't see any raised transition to the waterslides I used. Overall it's not perfect but I'm happy as hell I didn't ruin it. I took some pics-

So that we will not be moved to off topic, found an old photo of one of my Amer Std and franken TC. I'll take more photos of the others. I was actually a broke musician in my teen years, then had to go enter another 'industry'. Those were some of the best days of my life: booze, sex, drugs, and rock n roll. Ahhh.....
