I have a Fender Strat copy and fitted it with Seymour Duncan hot stacks and I honestly couldn't tell much difference in tone between the two, maybe a slight lack of warmth and different fell on the neck but that's it!

He also used to have Replica Fenders to smash up on stage at the end of each night! His Rolex collection is vast but I'm sure there are a few good reps in there. Here is him buying a Rolex at the end of the video, looks like the 4 month waiting list means nothing to him haha

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMAHi3-dHIw

FYI he paid 137 000 sek which today equals to about 20k for that one =) And he asked: "is the watch ready?" when he walked in which implies that he had been waiting for it ;)

I know Tokai well...fyi I have been a working guitarist 27 years and been playing for 38ish or so....I also build "mutts"

Here is my 1984/85 Tokai that is now a "mutt"....the loaded pic guard out of my 1993 American Standar Strat w/Seymour Duncan Hotrails and 2 Seymour Duncan "lil 59's". A 1986 Model 1 Charvel neck with a USA Charvel decal. A 1983 Made In West Germany Floyd Rose.
This is a mean bad ass through my Marshalls now.
This HAS to be made out from Alder as it is heavy and a cinder block...HEAV EEer'n hell.

It had this fautina's 21 fret neck on it when I bought it and 2 different impressions of different Fender logo's on it....the paint is still killer even today.

To answer OP. Eric Clapton and John Mayer are just two of many guitarists know for their taste in high end and rare timepieces. Eric really has a stunning collection, very heavy in Rolex and vintage Daytonas. Now I think both him and Mayer are leaning towards the vintage Patek side of things.

Hey, if you want a cheaper LP go for a MIJ "lawsuit era" like a Tokai, Greco or Burny. Japanese makers produced high end replicas of late 50's early 60's Fenders and Gibsons in the 70's & 80's when the (then) current USA models were reaching extremely low quality. The quality of those MIJ "lawsuit era" guitars are arguably what caused Fender, Gibson and others to start with their Reissue series and bring back the quality American guitars were known for.

I have a 1983 Tokai '62 Stratocaster and an early 2000s Epiphone Elite '59 Burst. Both made in Japan and both rival my American Fender Deluxe Strat and Gibson gold top LP.

@Txrob, that Charvel strat is badass indeed! What did you use for the pickup? Gotta be a killer with only a volume knob on it.

I've seen some Gibson replicas in China. Quality of electronics is meah, but the wood and finish in a few of the 'high-end' ones are scary good. The only thing one needs to do is change the electronics, buy some aftermarket Gibson parts and you are good to go.

arcadia,

The pup is a SD 59

That Tangerine "mutt" Charvel is as follows;

I bought a pawn shop Yamaha Pacifica for the Seymour Duncan 59 and black mounting ring, the Wilkinson tremolo and the Sperzel TrueLoc machines.
The body is a 1986 Charvel Model 1a that was black and had the Fender 6 hole bridge and 3 single coils. I filled the bridge holes, routed the bridge pup hole for the humbucker and all the body work, blocked the primer 3 times.

Originally I used the pointy headstock maple fingerboard neck w/tangerine body color painted headstock but, after it was built, the Wilkinson would NOT stay in tune with the wild ass string angle splay of that pointy headstock. This is why pointy Charvels and Jacksons HAVE to use a locking nut with a tremolo...there is just too much angle for the strings to snap back. So, I ended up ordering a Warmouth "Charvel Spec" strathead neck (a forum member, not here btw, waterslide Charvel decal) with the charvel radius and jumbo frets UNFINISHED....(I like em soft and natural). The pick guard is a 3 play from Chandler.

A luthier here in FtWorth drilled, routed and mounted the Wilkenson. Painted the body, then mocked up the parts for me and I finished the build, detail work and setup. It was much like a franken watch build...months of prep and little shit. Parts sourcing and then the build.

I have WAY more money in this guitar that anyone would ever wanna pay me for what it IS....a custom hotrod, but it is a brutal, bad ass guitar....I dig it big time. I have about $1400 in it less the $300 I had bought the original, 1 owner 1986 Charvel Model 1a import.

Thanks for asking about it

This is what it looked like stock

BTW that blue Tokai is in this pic too with the 21f neck and stock tremolo..pre mutt'ing (modding as we say here)

That looks great! Love that classic 80s short scale super strat style guitar. Can't be a good watch when playing live

Not sure what you mean by "80's short scale" as those necks are all 25 1/2"...the short scale is 24 3/4.

Ahh I thought it might of been a Charvel short scale, as alot of players in the 80s played them like Vivian Campbell, Adrian Vandenberg etc. Mine is short scale, great for those tough chords.

It's very early here on a drunken spree so pardon my mumbling.

That's a killer set up! I have never been good with floyd roses (aside from the mandatory dive bombs) so they dont appeal to me anymore than when we younger. The straight headstock works better IMO. Glad the bridge lined up well with your nuts and headstock. It could be a problem to some newbie with intonation.

The Tokai is pretty good too. With those setups, i would imagine your set list haha, mixing classics with top 40. Im sure you also got those "that guitar player was all over the pkace" when you were young. Love those years ;)

3 Day Bender is a working cover band. We play whatever gets the women dancing and bar MONEY...It's a very diverse bunch of stuff...at least a double shot (2 in a row) of songs that have guitar harmonies. We are a 2 guitar, lead/rythum/harmony outfit. All 4 of us sing, harmonize etc. We have been at this 25 years. Now, my personal genre love is 80's hair metal and 90's-present Metalcore...THAT is why, back in the day, I spent years woodshedding Hair Metal/Thrash guitar bands. The diatonic, harmonic minor scales, floating tremolo, Marshalls "grip it & RIP IT" guitar...but today I make money (we I actually gig) playing the much easier shit.

But you are dead on where my heart, gear and style IS....\m/...Till I'm dead

I have a Marshall JCM2000 too Rob. I have the DSL100 but really should have bought the 50 or get the 100H which can half the output.

Maybe mod it so I can switch between modes as well as channels.
