Why do so many people love PAMs?

No. Sometimes it's a following the idols - Stallone, Statham, Ahnuld, Clinton, etc.
Sometimes people just like to wear big shiny chunk of the steel. Look at me!!!
:D
Fascinating with design? 3-4 different cases type, that's it. And countless variations of small differences in dials - with pig, without pig, sausage, sandwich. Sure, there's 5-8 PAMs, that have distinct differences, but rest - all the same.

Luth...I can honestly say, I had no idea these celebs wore PAMS in the beginning...maybe they also see the allure...

Still maybe the masses are on to something...:pam:...

I came here to look for the best sub. But a post from someone made me look at the Pam forum, and bought my first watch it was a Pam. I thought they were all the same, but now, I have over 12 and I can see the difference, also I have over 30 straps,. I am in love with pams. Just buy one and you will get hooked.

Ps: ALE es tu culpa!

Je suis dans le "quand je suis entré, je me soucie moins " camp, mais maintenant j'adore 'em. Il y a un certain ... I do not know what, à propos d'eux.

I know, I edited the title.
I can't understand why they are called PAMs and not PANs though.

But as soon as hit 'submit' I am sure someone will tell me there is already a massive vein of posts about this that exists!

In response to all who have posted thus far.

Thanks for the comments. I totally get what you are saying about just buying one and trying it. Often with watches you can be surprised by what you like on your wrist and also what gets commented on by other people.

I am about to dip my toe in the PAM ocean of choice and become an addict: starting today my search for my first will begin. Like you guys I am certain to end up with multiple ones - that's just the way we are right?

So you don't even know what you are talking about, never mind forget it..............

I'm simply agreeing with you that the 40 dollar straps are better than the reps but IMHO I still think those straps are a POS and quality straps are 80 and over , obviously you can get good used straps for less on the sales thread. But like I said before that's your opinion and this is mine

FYI....

The title should say PAM not PAN.

PAM = Panerai Model #

I used to hate it and focused on Rolex and Breitling. But its simplistic design on the 390, 372, 6152 eyc won me over. Plus the straps.... ;)

I have to say that I don't like any PAMs with complications. I remember being in Florence in the mid 90s and seeing some watches that I thought were ridiculously large and expensive. It's very likely I was looking at PAMs back then.
I really fell in love with a base Pam after joining this forum. It's so simple and classy. I bought a 5218-201a and it's still my favorite. I tried a 111n, 360, 029, and 026. All of them made me say "meh." I think I'm a one Pam guy. The rest of them are too complicated with sec@9, GMT, date window, etc.

Simplicity is why I love at least one Pam. Being able to put on almost any type of strap without clashing with the watch design is another.

i would say Panerai got very distinctive feature among other brand
which are their case and crown, not for their price or bullshit.
thats why i like em.

Why do I like Pams? That's like asking why do I like boobs. Are there people who don't like boobs? I guess there are a few.

Bang on a different strap and it totally transforms the watch.

I'm just getting the whole PAM thing, I joined the forum had never heard of Panerai. Saw all the talk going on about them, gave them a look, still didn't get it. They all looked alike to me. Got a 076 blackseal with Purdey SS cover on Asian7750 Christmas sale, put on that PAM for the first time and started to understand a little bit, but never ordered any more. Then I became aware of a few of so-called super reps and I read ALE's PAM reviews it started to click, with all the gorgeous pics posted and varying straps, I was hooked. I ordered and PAM 092 Toro special to get an idea of what all the talk of the 243 sub was all about. Something about PAM's imo is until you put it on you cannot realize how nice they are, When I changed strap on the 092 from black rubber to tobacco leather and put it on, I got it, I know that feeling now. Ordered a 026K from Sead already started buying straps waiting on it to get here any day now. Just received a 372, at first I thought it was to big, still not really sure. But I went out last night, put on a nice long sleeve shirt buttoned at wrist, that watch all of a sudden was popping, I mean the shit was looking so f&#king nice. So it is a acquired taste imo, but once you get one on the wrist you will love it.
