Why do so many people love PAMs?

Like many others have stated, I didn't get it either until I got one. I started out looking for Rolex. I went away from the Sub to the Sea-Dweller and DSSD simply because everyone seemed to have a Sub. I could not understand all the hoopla about PAMs since they all looked the same to me. I decided to try one and found someone selling a Noob 243M in the sales section for a reasonable price (before we found out the factories are not making them any more), and now it is my favorite watch. Seems that it is right in the sweet spot for size for my arm, it is well made, and although it has features that readily identify it as a PAM, it looks different to me somehow. I think the other thing I like about it is that 99% of people don't recognize it or the name. People see you with a Rolex on your wrist and I think the question in their minds is always whether it is a fake or not. People don't recognize this watch, so they have no clue. I did have a waiter at a restaurant one night comment on it though and later brought over a co-worker to show them the kind of watch he wanted to have someday. When he brought the check, he asked me if I knew that Sylvester Stallone wears Panerais. "No, I had no idea. I guess he has good taste."

I don't need my bifocals to see what time it is..........

Good answer!

I had wondered if they were designed for the focally challenged!

I am starting to get a better idea about the PAM love affair now - and I get the fact that its all about trying one on for the feeling.

I like the GMT model above. Somehow I just like having a date function on a watch. Yet I do like the simplicity of the 111 also.

I know what you are all going to say.
Now say it outloud...

I'm not reading all the responses because like Q5 said this is a original question lol, but that brand does nothing for me either, but its all about subjective taste so go figure.

Also I agree most of them really do look the same, however alot of people would say that about all the Submariners and SDs we all buy. But unless I really look I can't tell one from the other with that brand, also I never wear straps, not my thing.

While the allure of a Panerai is somewhat of a subjective one I think that most Panerai enthusiasts can appreciate:

- It's rich history - started out as a watch for the Italian Navy
- The combination of Italian aesthetics & swiss Rolex movement (in earlier versions)
- The simple elegance of the design
- The unmistakable fonts used on the dial
- The signature crown guard
- The friendliness of the paneristi
- The exclusivity of the brand (almost every watch production is "limited")

True... every watch model, and there's more, than 500 of them, is limited.

I don't get it.

So, I'll set my stall out:
I'm an Omega, Rolex and Tag Heuer fan - they're the cornerstones of my collection.

I was considering the merits of other brands with a view to expanding into pastures new (at the moment Chopard, IWC, Hublot are also in the mix).

Now I could wax on lyrically for hours about the greatness of seamasters, subs and monacos - but what would Panerai owners say to try to sway me?

I'm not a huge fan of the design, but could be swayed.
I don't know much about the brand either.

But I do see many of you folks on here wearing them and clearly loving them (like APs also - but thats a whole different thread).

Help me out - help me spend more of my hard earned wedge on "yet another watch" to quote my wife :D:

Why do you wear Panerais?

If Omega say Bond, Americas cup and moon watch and Tag say Steve Mcqueen, what does Panerai say?

Hmmmm, Im not sure anyones ever asked that before............:hehehe:

What does panerai say?

Panerai doesn't have to say anything.
It is what it is,
and that's enough...

Sent from my iPad cause I'm to lazy to sit at a computer.

Bond, Steve McQueen. Have you heard of Rocky, Rambo, and Barney Ross? They all have one thing in common, PANERAI!

Has anyone said Strap combos? Lol! The versatility. You can totally change the look of the watch with a strap. I've had people ask me "how many watches do you have?" I tell them it's the same watch, different strap.
