Its very true. If I put my gen BB against my rep BB, a lot of people (I think) would pick the rep, because it really is that close, if you couldn't tell I am amazed how close it actually is.

For me it comes down to do you really want to own the watch? To me the Black Bay is great, I love everything about it, and it is at a relatively affordable entry price and I wanted to own it. So it was a no brainer for me.

it represents what the brand was supposedly about when rolex first started - reliable time pieces for soldiers during WW2
not many people knew that time keeping was not as reliable during the 1940's, most American watches were confiscated from the enemies during WW2 - Rolex decided to guarantee a free replacement for every confiscated watch, it pretty much played a huge part in why Rolex is so popular these days

Just saw this bud, mucho congrats! If I could sell my whole collection and get the gen watch I want, I'd do it in a second. Problem is, my collection wouldn't get me anywhere near the $35k I'd need :laugh:

I know what you mean, I think mines a little more than that, I cant decide between Journe, an ALS or a Patek 5970, either way we are looking at $60-150k. This will have to do for now haha

The new Dato platinum and/or Rose Gold grey dial is insane.

Also check out Hodinkee today if you haven't , they have a feature on a new Journe box set. His 6 original watches (could be wrong I am not sure how exactly he picked them) in 38mm all in steel
