15400 Franken project!

I have finally been able to get a 3120 gen. Movement. Just missing a gen rotor.

So the actual parts I have:

- APSF base
- gen black dial
- Gen date disc
- Gen hands
- Gen white gold bezel screws
- Gen movement (but with « work »rotor)

i heard of proper CNC case the gasket is different from ZF, is that the case?
My two cents - I do have a custom made cnc case for 15202 in my hands now as well as legend modified ZF case. These are two completely different cases. Several key differences:

- different mid case construction - holes in the mid case (ZF) vs holes in the large rubber gasket

- correct bezel screw size (accoring to the AP drawings) vs larger screws used by ZF

- better (closer to gen) proportions of bevels on the bezel and mid case

- close to gen thickness (8.1-8.2 mm) vs ZF which is thicker

- different brushing cnc case vs legend modded ZF - cnc case not as fine as legend’s mod to the ZF case

I plan to post a detail info about my franken build later withr photos comparing different parts as well (dials, hands, …)

Finished franken (cnc custom case, gen dial, hands, crown, k2121 and gasket, custom rotor and DW):

cnc case left, modified zf case right - different bezel screw size, different bevels on the bezel and mid case:

Different mid case construction cnc custom vs ZF:

Better “flush” mount and alignment of the case back with the cnc custom case (vs ZF, here it depends on how much you tighten the screws and press the gaskets) and the cnc case feels lighter and slimmer while holding both in hand:

Just wanted to add onto this. I have this exact build as well and the CNC case is well worth the upgrade from the ZF case.

Wow this helps so much. Can you also share front view of side by side picture? I also have Gen dial jumbo franken but this cnc looks nice

Yep, took some quick snapshots - see below. I plan to post some detail info about my franken build and parts comparison soon too.

Top / left is the cnc case. Right / bottom is ZF modded by legend. I’m definitely not an expert but based on the drawings which I found the cnc case is gen spec - checked the dimensions - bezel, screws,…

Finishing / brushing is different - not as fine or smooth like with legend’s modified ZF case. Not a strong opinion what is better. It is just different.

You are a god. Thank you. It seems like bezel’s side angle is little more stiff on cnc case

I’m currently working on a franken 15400.

Purchased -
Gen Dial -$1500
Gen Bezel - $500
APSF base -$350
Deep crystal - $100

I’m waiting for all the parts to come in. I’m just worried about the gen bezel and how it’s going to fit on the APSF casing

Looking forward to see you build and if the bezel makes any difference.

The brushing should be better on the gen. At least I would hope so

If it is used, not sure you will see the diff. I would prefer to invest on case reshaping, this is a visible difference if you know how to look. On Bezel, I am not able to see difference on wrist

The one with the coarse finish is not an AP finish

hummmm …. Between the one on the the right and a gen used you certainly wont , but on the left the lack of refined finsh is not swiss haute horlogerie like ;-)
