I'm never going to live this down. Oh God. . . .Why do I write poetry after a skinfull, why?
cringe, shame, I don't think I was even writing about Oascom - I think it was more about my own mistakes.
It wasn't directed specifically at you, it's the fools who fawn over people long after the evidence is in to show their misdeeds.

... I won't even get into the fact that both his over priced dials and the quality of his work had degenerated into crap that was only propped up by his fecking fanbois who were still simping over him while others were out the price of a decent used car (or, a cheap new one).

I can list a dozen times where fanbois assuring people that everything is fine whether in public or in private has cost members a total of well over 100k and guess what, it's over. From now on, if we declare someone to be dodgy we won't take any argument, start defending them and those folk may find themselves needing a new forum.

Ales fucking Klar, everyone?

Freaking spot on!

I think you wanted to say that not everyone is the same.

Some of us are tinkerers (me) some are genuine certified watchmakers, artists even.

All of us mess up the work sometimes, but not everyone is like Oascom. Not everyone ships overpriced shit. And when sometimes shit gets out of the bench, there is a duty to make it right.

Where I draw the absolute line is about scumbags that hold money and don’t ship, about lowlifes who don’t have the decency to keep buyers updated proactively, about shitbags who don’t fix their mistakes and blame « circumstances »

🤔 did I depict @Oascom in that last paragraph ? 🤔

Finally, the real danger is when ego and pride get involved. Making watches, low end or high end, is a set of skills acquired the hard way. When compliments come your way, it’s easy to go down the slippery slope of feeling somehow superior. That’s the first step towards becoming a @Nikz19 or a @Oascom or many many other before.

I'm so tired of every one of these asshats using the same "personal heath issues" as reason for ghosting customers and holding their pieces and money hostage. If you are sick and can't complete the job in the agreed timeframe, COMMUNICATE with the customer, and always expect they will want their watches and money back.

... oh, that's right, 9 out of 10 times this excuse is complete bullshit. Ok, rant over.

Let’s start with “Errare humanum est, perseverare autem diabolicum”.

I haven’t followed the whole story in detail, but I ask myself: why ruin a career? Why destroy everything you’ve worked so hard to build over the years?
Our work, that of a watchmaker, is driven by passion. It must flow through your veins. And when that passion becomes your profession, you’ve hit the jackpot! However, I believe the biggest mistake many watchmakers on this forum make is overloading themselves with work. You can’t take on everything or try to do a thousand things at once unless you have collaborators. If you do, then you’re building a company, and that’s a different story. But working alone, in the long run, will wear you down.

Another issue is money. This profession gives you the chance to earn well, but like for everyone else, money can go to your head and ultimately destroy your career. It’s crucial to find balance: organize your work with proper rest days, set working hours, respect holidays, and, most importantly, have a life outside of work. We’re human beings, not robots, and we all have our vulnerabilities and a life that deserves attention.

It’s a real shame because this forum has given, and continues to give, so many members, trusted sellers, and watchmakers the opportunity to work and grow in what they love. There’s plenty of work for everyone. So why steal? Why lie?

We all have problems—family, health, or other personal issues. And it depends on the severity of the situation: if it genuinely prevents you from working, then that’s another story. In such cases, return the packages to the clients, pause your work, and take the time you need.

Personally, I was hospitalized in 2021 with COVID and spent 20 days in the hospital. I informed all my clients. Once I recovered, I worked even on Saturdays to catch up on delayed jobs. Afterward, I resumed my usual pace, including my Saturday and Sunday rest days.

With this, I’m not claiming to be better than others, absolutely not. What I want to emphasize is that we all face unforeseen events in life. But it’s essential to act responsibly and take ownership of your actions.

This message is not directed at anyone in particular, but to everyone.

Fortunately, there’s also a positive side: the forum is full of serious, ambitious, respectful people with a strong desire to collaborate. This spirit will always prevail over everything else. 💪

That is a great post A. It sumarises the problems that RWI modders and watchmakers create for themselves. You have been at this a long time and one of the reasons you are so successful at it is because of your ability to say "no" and take time out for yourself. We have seen many instances of some watchmakers taking on work that they cannot complete or indeed do not have the skills to complete. Why would anyone want to do that?

You are so right they start out passionate about the hobby but then it goes to their head. It becomes a money making exercise and the passion is taken out of it. When they start to believe their own hype it truly can become a problem.

I think a good example of this for me personally was the Metal Moonswatches. I didn't take pre-orders, I didn't accept payment up front, I just built then in batches of 5-10 as I felt. I think if people will remember I started giving away the 3d printed movement holders for free. But then many people requested I start building them... so I did! This caused me to purchase patron to allow me to attempt to profit slightly to offset any weirdness like different cases from AliX, a broken stem or two, a DOA Moonswatch, and keep funding cool projects (like the RWI dials, and I've got some cool projects coming this year too!). The idea was to keep building and selling as long as people kept buying.

At one point, I had a backlog of around 50 people I had signed up in line to buy. In each thread I tagged them. There was fighting over them early on but as I made more and more, I reduced demand by selling, (as expected), but as it ends up, many people originally interested never reached out again.

I eventually got rid of the list as people just were no reaching out to buy. Plus, updating the list was a task in itself, along with me keeping inventory of the serial numbers and who owned each, which is how I can call out in the sales thread what number watch someone has, what type of movement holder it has, etc.

If I had built enough for the backlog, I suspect I'd still be sitting on a bench full of metal moonswatches today (more than I already have!), and be out quite a bit of money and time. If I had taken pre-orders, especially from the new members spamming me with PMs, I would have had to build a hundred more metal moonswatches.

Not about money for me, and I suspect this is the same for most builders or modders. For the hours I put in building, I can make a lot more elsewhere without having to handle something that can become tedious with building, troubleshooting, packing, shipping, and repairs.

I remember that and it was certainly not for the love of money but for the love of the community. You are a credit to RWI and I truly mean that.

So untrue ! 😤

The damned fellow dumped all the EU seekers on me. Some trying to send me money before I even build the things.

After some time, I decided that I would not be like Caboose « Oliver Twist » slaving on the assembly chain of The Metal MoonSwatch God, and only pursue what I fancied… Design and experimentation.

It's true. Anytime someone from the EU wants a metal moonswatch I say Karbon will build it for them, as long as they are interested in an "vintagized Pikachu themed concept."

I have to say I lump you in the same boat as @Caboose . You are both a credit to RWI. I love what you guys are doing and no @Karbon74 you are not getting Deadpool back.
