I went out for a little walk to take a break of all the university work I have. For some reason I was thinking of the AP Silver Themes and it sprang to my mind that the AP AD is about 0.5 miles away from where I was so I decided to go and try that baby on as I've never even had an AP on my wrist.

I was disappointed to find out they didn't have one in stock but then as I was looking around the other master pieces of AP, I noticed the black themes. You'll say "well d'uh, you're in an AP dealer". Well not quite. The DW on that AP was not aligned with the 2 and 4 and was nearly touchy the tachy ring. Just like our reps!!!

I was amazed!!! An AP rep at an ACTUAL Audemars Piguet dealer? Not some mixed watch AD. A PROPER Audemars Piguet AD!!!

I just couldn't resist and I had to ask. I didn't say anything about reps so don't worry. I told the clerk that my father had the same watch but the date window seemed to be at a different position. The guy told me that this is how it is with the new models and the very first AP ROO watches produced had the date window located really close to the tachy ring.

So here you go, some grounds for discussion. What say you?

For some reason the clerk did not late me take pictures of ANY of the watches which pissed me off. I've been to numerous ADs before and I took wristies of many watches without problems.

Hmmm, interesting... Won't let you take pictures, and the date window looks off....

Just because they are an AP dealer doesn't mean everyone who works there is 100% honest...

Nah, it's not the AP ROO they didn't let me take pictures of, it was everything. There was this VERY neat 16 watch box from AP that I wanted to take a pic of to show you guys, but nooo....

[sarcasm]Yeah,,, so... (for affect only, no disrespect) [/sarcasm]

[rant]we have repeatedly said so many times that members expectations on their watches are extreme. I watch members pick apart so many little things that are commonly found on the genuine article. This is one of the reasons I stopped selling watches.

I have a genuine breitling chronomat evolution limited that is not perfect. I paid $6k for mine, but then I read where someone throws a fit over a speck of dust or the alignment is 0.011mm off on thier $175 replica. [/rant]

[happy] so cool you got some quality time with your obsession. I can spend hours in my favorite stores trying stuff on, talking watch with the guys only to find out that I know about 600% what they do about their very own product. lol. [/happy]

Daytona, you actually managed to squeeze out 10k+ posts in span just over 5 years???
I salute you :D

Good thing is when you get time to check out the real deal and actually see that there are flaws, dust, crazy rehauts, dw´s misaligned etc.
Put things in their right perspective so to speak, even my totally watch obsessed soon-finished-watchmaker friend think I´m nutz and asks where I find all weird facts and crazy ideas and why I´m going through all the painstaking efforts to gather parts and rebuild reps just for the "fun of it".

Somehow finding out that there are differences even among gens helps us sleep and feel better :)
But understandably if your around long enough in this hobby your quest for perfection will be fuelled by tons of other members macroshots mixed with computer rendered brand pic´s and god knows what.
But luckily everyone sober up sooner or later :)

But I´m certainly impressed with our hawk-eyed member QQ :cheer:
I would not have spotted that, I´m more of a "thin caseback=gen, thick CB=rep"
But since you spotted it I might have to drop by my AP AD to have a look myself ;)

Cheers,
Jiddy

This is absolutely the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard an AD say. I wonder how all those "top secret" photos managed to be taken at BASELWORLD 2011?

And how the hell did someone get Octavio Garcia, Audemars Piguet's Designer Manager to pose with a couple of these????

Who the hell does he think he is? I'd go back and ask to speak with the owner or manager and explain that you shared this story with others on The PuristS.com who were as surprised as you were to be told this. Just because I'm a prick, if I wasn't happy with the way I was treated after that, I'd send an email to AP explaining how you were interested in making an educated decision about a watch but were denied to opportunity to take a photo for reference to share with other gen owners.

That little prick should have offered you a tripod or light box to help you with your decision process.

I don't know, it must be my age or something (I'm only 21). I get this all the time. Not all AD's do it but it happens that they don't let me take pictures. Hell, I was on Frankfurt airport once and wanted to snap a pic of a diamond encrusted Vertu phone and the lady nearly jumped out from behind the counter and bitch slapped me.
