I also had an arf from the beginning of 2020, I don't remember if V3 or V4, but as good as the crystal may be, I don't think it can be better than the vsf which, however, is known for having the best crystals. So I tell you I was lucky, but if you can find a gen crystal, don't miss it.

My XF SD43 is gone now to make room for the inbound one, so I can not do a full 3 watch photo shoot. Sorry.

Literally just got here about 18 min ago, and I’m I just finished installing the Gen crystal on my DJ and that was while taking a break from an Elgin I’m rebuilding, so my bench is A MESS at the moment, please standby…

Very first impression is the date is over magnified otherwise beautiful and I have a GEN crown on the ARF, but the VSF crown almost looks better. Otherwise, the pearl is a little better on the VSF everything else pretty much looks identical. Both crystals are superb but all uploaded. Hell of a lot of pics later on.

I ordered an XF recently from a TD, but he’s having trouble getting one without issues. I’m trying to figure out if I should stick with the XF and continue to wait or move over to the VSF.

Both have merits for sure:

In the following, please note the ARF has a GEN crown and Everest Spring Bars, otherwise is stock ARF V4.

The VSF is out of the box.

The ARF bracelet is by far better.
The ARF bezel Rotates far better (no play).
The ARF SELs have more “play” at the head.
The ARF SEL fitment side to side is perfect.
The ARF date is perfect.
The ARF 2824 is rock solid, and doesn’t look bad.

The VSF CG’s are excellent.
The VSF 3235 movement is perfect. All of it.
The VSF bezel feels fake.
The VSF date looks HUGE, but at 90% angles you don’t notice.
The VSF bracelet feels fake (and sounds fake)
The VSF lugs seem sharper, in a good way.
The VSF crown feels AWESOME


Both crystals look amazing in person. Both bracelets LOOK amazing in person. Both bezels and inserts look amazing in person, with little to no variation between the two. The FEEL is truly where you can tell them apart, and the ARF crushes it.

BUT: the VSF movement makes me rethink my screen name. It’s wonderful. It’s so smooth, and I had my CF DJ41 with 3235 in my hands moments before the SD43 came (installing a gen crystal, it’s so choice) and the 3235 from CF is really nice, but the VSF feels even better!

I’m going to take measurements of some key items, to truly compare data. At the end of all this, I’m selling one. And I can’t decide which…

I got a XF lately and I’m very happy with it - I think I’m putting on an ARF bracelet and maybe Gen Crystal… (the bracelet and especially the clasp is a major flaw of this watch for me - it feels a little bit cheap IMO)…
I can ignore the missing serif until now

I had the XF a few weeks ago, not again. The SELs were garbage, the movement felt wonky, and honestly the ONLY thing good about it was the pearl, which was nice, but the ARF V4 was the clear winner almost immediately.

I bought the XF to make a hybrid with the ARF, and could not justify any changes to the ARF.

Thats weird, because the winding and date adjustment feel very smooth on mine!
Bezel rotation feels solid…
But I never held the ARF SD43 in my hands, so I can’t tell anything about it - but I believe in what you say! Mostly the weakness shows up, when something stronger is next to it…
