Good point. The SEL does very wear different to gen. I might try the free rubber strap today.

Is the insert finish matte as gen ??

In your opinion, is it comfortable on wrist despite the thickness ?

Thks!

For all intents and purposes, I can’t spot any meaningful differences between this and gen.

If I saw this up close on somebodies wrist (few inches from my face for 30sec), I will not spot it as a rep.

Matte or gloss.....black or blue....I don’t know.

The differences are negligible and it depends on the angle and lighting. Also there are different gen batches etc. Sometimes the sky reflects on the shiny dial and makes it look blue....but it’s black.

It’s very thick and not the most comfortable watch for me on my 6.75” wrist but it’s the same as gen. I wear this in rotation with other watches, I couldn’t wear this as my only watch because it’s not that comfortable .....but after a few days you forget about the extra bulk on your wrist.

Unfortunately this is off my list, tried the 42mm at my local AD. It genuinely is just too tall for my taste..

Thanks for your kindness and your extensive comments :)

It’s a great watch overall, and one of the best Omega reps at the moment, IMHO.

I’m thinking to order one, but with silvered numbers, in 42mm too. The only downside is the thickness ...

mech500, thanks bro for all pics and review, congrats on this nice purchase!!

I would be all over this a couple of years back but my taste has changed plus I own the genuine LMPO which is the ultimate PO if you ask me (perfect 2500 case and killer ceramic dial/insert combination!!).. but what a nice rep that this VSF is!!

Agree this is why I am holding the trigger, I have noob lmpo v1 wich is very good as rep and don't feel the need for the gen and on my small wrist the 2500 case is perfect. I would like to try the titanium even is bulky since I do not own any titanium watch or the seamaster 300 spectre that should sit better on the small wrist and can substitute a GMT

I agree. the Gen LMPO is arguably better than a sub in many way.

However, I personally do not class Noob LMPO as a super-rep because the lume application is horrible and the bracelet quality/feel is cheap.

When watchmakers check for authenticity they don’t look at silly “tells” like what colour is the seconds hand tip, instead they look at the dial/hands lume application as a first pass.

I think this VSF CRPO is very close to being a super-rep but it’s VERY thick which is not to everyone’s taste.

However, if it’s good enough for Bond in his Tom Ford suit, then it’s good enough for me:

Even Daniel Craig himself didn't really wear that exact model in the film because he complained that it was too heavy for the action scenes. Thus Omega had to do a one of a kind titanium version that looked very similar to the standard ceramic stainless steel model, and it was used only for filming the Istanbul scenes in Skyfall. That titanium watch was auctioned off a few months after the film was released. Lucky owner whoever has it now.

The one of a kind titanium Planet Ocean that was made specifically for filming of the movie and was auctioned off at Christies.

Haha. I didn’t know that.

But I imagine that the titanium version had the same case thickness and therefore wore in the same way with his cuffed shirt as the SS version. Weight and therefore comfort would obviously be different tho

Yeah. Everything about it would be the same. Only the weight is lighter which only the wearer would know. I suppose the lighter weight of the watch made it easier for Craig to do the action sequences seen during the opening of Skyfall. Wearing a heavy PO on the left wrist would've been a distraction.

Probably why he went with the Aqua Terra for the rest of the movie afterwards. Thinner and definitely lighter than the PO..haha

Here is the information about the case size.

VSF rep Omega Planet Ocean (8500)
case size without crown: 42mm-42.2mm
thickness: 16mm-16.1mm

p.s.
It is not a small watch for a small size wrist????????‍♂️
I am considering to pass this to someone maybe...hmmm????

But, honestly now, the 42mm 8500 PO is such a nice watch to wear, not that heavy or tall in particular

I really like the orange Numbers version, but the color is far from gen. The rep got to much red in it..

Feels solid. Very good amount of resistance. The click sound is not as crisp as gen but importantly it doesn’t sound like a cheap Chinese rep.
