Ok interesting…..I can’t tell on mine whether it has or does not have the distortion you are referring to. I’ve not seen the comparison side by side to be able to discern the difference. I also have no way of knowing if the DJ I just received is the newer or older batch.

In comparing to your pictures my date window does not look as crisp or non distorted ? so I can only assume it has this distortion ? In any case it’s not really that noticeable to be honest.

On my example ( jubilee ) I also had to slightly adjust the clasp by ever so slightly bending the top clasp lever to ensure that it has a more positive click on engaging. The clasp on my ARF Milgaus definitely feels better and more tactile.

Just checked - Z66. So even though it was just ordered , it’s the older batch which also explains why it’s cheaper. Originally I had ordered the jubilee with the smooth bezel but it wasn’t in stock and I was informed VSF would be releasing them again soon but could be a while and at $60 usd more…. hence I opted for what was available to avoid the extra wait over the CNY holiday period - which was the jubilee on the fluted bezel. So Z66 it is !

Ive been examining the crystal and cyclops again after reading this thread and checking the Serial numbers and I reckon even this Z66*** serial number has the distortion free cyclops. I stand to be corrected but after a bit of trawling through RWI and Reddit and some other online sources, I can see where the older versions had this distortion issue, its quite obvious, with stretching, fattening and other deformities of the date font when the watch is angled. On mine, no matter the angle the date is still legible with no real stretching or fattening of the font. It also has clasp code K6G - not sure if that's been verified as a VSF or ARF clasp as stated on many posts.

After doing a DeMag on the watch - its now running at 0 seconds per day deviation over 24 hrs - so this VS movement is very good.
Its a lovely rep this one - a keeper.

The Z66 and Z80 crystals are different, and if time permits I’ll illustrate this.

Fact is both are great, but neither is gen, and the newer is a hair better (IN MY OPINION)

Again I have CFv2, Z66, Z80 and GEN 7036 all here, I bought them all to compare, and did so pretty in depth. (Under my oiling and inspection microscope)

I did a post of the KF, CFv2 and VS Z80 not too long ago. Compared a lot of things.

But yeah, at one point I’ll compare the CF and both VS’s

After a full wind ( wound it until I felt some resistance ) and 48 hrs later the VS movement is running at @ 20 secs fast. Will see if it gets the full 70+ hrs.

I get about 60hrs, and leaving it sit in one spot like advanced the time, thus the 10yrs/day so far.

Just checked mine. It achieved 67 hrs power reserve. It gained @ 25 secs in that time so some regulation down the track would be nice.
This is one very impressive clone movement.

To be fair, that has the Z66 VS and not the Z80 VS which is better. It also has the CFv1 and the CFv2 is so much better it’s nuts.

So Steve’s thread is sadly outdated now.

I don't see how that's fair. This thread would have allowed him to identify the candidates and from then to search the threads to double click on a short list, likely VS and Clean.

That would have been a much better process than asking "who's got the best DJ41" don't you think?

Ok my Z66 as stated further up ran just over 67 hrs on what I considered to be a full wind. I stopped after I felt some resistance so not sure if it had more in it. So the Z80 is getting closer to 70 then ?? Impressive.

Also just checked and compared close up pics a Z66 and Z80 dial.
They both have the correct spacing on the 25 marker ( earlier dials have this spacing issue on this number and the "2" and "5" have a gap ) and both still have the weird SwiSS MADE error where the S and W are are slightly larger than the WI. Both have same nice sunbusrt effect and almost identical date mag window ( non distorted )

So im guessing there may be a larger difference in the LUG design between the 2 case batches ?
Anyways, playing detective with these things is very interesting and is a one way ticket down the rabbit hole.

Out of curiosity does anyone else perhaps have any 1st hand experience both the Z66*** serial number cased watches and the Z80*** serial number cased watches and have any comments on the differences they have seen and experienced.
