That's their choice though, and its cool by me. I have a Gen PO and have R2 and Katt making another FrPO for me. It's crazy. But if it does not bother me, why should it bother someone else?

I really do not see what the big deal is with the crown and the CGs.

And I own the Gen lol:

It's the crystal that'll get you, but only from a Rolex nut.

The other six billion, nine hundred and ninety nine million, nine hundred and ninety nine thousand, five hundred people in the world will never know............

I couldn't agree more - my point exactly. I defy anyone to call this out on the wrist once the pearl's been swapped.

Just out of interest do you dive with the rep matey?

Dive?

Swam in the pool with this rep, no condensation or issues ( so far )

But I never dive (scuba) with reps...

Is there a tutorial on the pearl mod?

1. Order 16610 pearl from Watchmaterial.com. Take it up the butt for shipping.
2. Remove bad pearl.
3. Replace with Watchmaterial pearl.
4. Done.

Modding your own pearl, given the fact that the Watchmaterial pearl has gen-like construction (which you'll never get on your own), just isn't worth it, IMHO.

You need a little filing of the hole, as the WM pearl is a bit bigger than the rep one.

Bezel font on the rep is a bit thin, you can always say it's an aftermarket one as the SD is your beater and Rolex wanted too much? That's if you find one of the 500 people in the world who would notice.

Inaccurate crown guards on a Rolex is no different to inaccurate CG's on a Panerai, I like my reps accurate, this simply isn't accurate enough for me, how is that snobbery?

I would have preferred fat over large CG's, at least they could be trimmed and shaved to look like the genuine ;)

Are we not being a tad harsh? I don't wish to speak out of turn, but I've noticed a mild snobbery associated with Rolex replication critique - for some reason we suddenly get super anal with Sub and SD reps.

Yes, it's unfortunate but that's the name of the game. If you want to know 'Who has the best Sub', you gotta give the best. Sub and its big brother SD are some of most (if not the most) iconic models of our time. As Uncle Ben says, "With great power comes great responsibility." So.. :biglaugh:

It goes not only in rep kingdom but also in gen communities. When I hand someone my other branded gens, they just acknowledge it. When I hand someone my gen Rolex, they scrutinize it. Ah life.

Aside from the pearl, CG, and crown height, the bezel teeth is a bit shallow but maybe because they are different in series models, and can be justified. The clasp features are different too: the Rolex logo wording is bigger on the gen; bigger font on the etching; and different numbering altogether. But I like that the word 'Swiss' is separated from the 'Made'.

Still congrats bro for this effort. Really a good one and much appreciated.

Received mine today. Friggin' beautiful unit. I don't even give a crap that the pearl is off (though I'll be replacing it soon anyway).

Does the rep pearl easily pop out?

Sure does. Just heat the bezel under a lamp or with a hairdryer, and then remove that. Then to remove the pearl, and while it's still warm, just push it out from behind with a toothpick.

Yes. I used an exacto knife to lift it out of the bezel. I chose to do this over taking the whole bezel out. I am really good at mauling inserts trying to insert them back. :lol1:

After "lifting" the bad pearl out and comparing to Gen and the New Pearl

New Pearl sat too high, hand drilled with a drill bit, ONE TURN AT A TIME. Shave and test set the pearl, shave and test set. Took me 2 turns only.
You want the friction of the bezel vs the cup of the pearl as the main source of holding it in. I added a dab of crazy glue around the cup for insurance.

gw4k, what size of drill bit did you use?
