Thinking of buying some PAMs

So, I'm slowly getting back into the watch game and I'd like to refresh my collection. PAMs have really caught my fancy lately and I'd like to pick up a few prior to the Chinese New Year if possible.

So far I only have the 372 Noob on my list (on sale from Toro) with a plan to get a solid caseback. I don't have any PAMs currently but I do still own one of the original 'Ring Of Fire' homage watches and I do like the heftier size.

The ZF 1359 that Straightravage posted today looks quite nice as well. Does it wear that much smaller on the wrist than a 47mm PAM? I tend to like the simple sandwich dials. Any other recommendations? I'm thinking i'll buy 2-4

At this time i'd prefer to steer clear of getting any submersibles as i have way too many divers already.

Hi Slyger,

The pam 372 noob is an excellent choice~

The ZF 1359 does wear a little smaller/lower on the wrist in versus to the 372. ZF 1359 has a case size of 44mm x 15.8mm. The 372 has a case size of 47mm x 17mm.

I too, love the larger size pams but they look a little ridiculous on my skinny wrist. So, I opted to buy the pam 622 and fell in love with it~ It's my personal favorite but the strap is pretty horrendous. I also removed the deco plates on the movement because they were only held on by double-sided tape, if you can even call it that. It has a closed back so it didn't really matter.

Thanks mate for the quick reply. I'll look into the 622 as well. Which rep offers the best quality?

Are there any other good reps of the larger sized PAMs?

Do any of the 44mm wear larger? The 176 also looks like a nice bet.

What about the new 441? Are the ceramic cases nice? Do the scratch/chip easily?

I suppose I could also be convinced to check out a submersible if there's a really nice Super rep that could replace one of my super avengers that are part of my daily rotation :)

Do check out ALE's PAM Guide (it's in my sig). It will answer most if not all of your questions. ;)

I did read through albeit rather quickly [emoji3]

I do plan on reading through it again though and giving it the proper read it deserves hopefully this weekend. I'm just looking for some suggestions and opinions on some of the best PAM options.

Outside of the Noob 372 which other super reps should I pick up? I suppose it will help if I have the versatility of also swapping straps across a few diff choices.

441's are surprisingly high quality, they will not scratch at all, they will chip if you drop them on pavement or bang hard against a metal railing or something other than that but it would have to be extreme carelessness.

I wear my 441 frequently and never worry about it

There are a lot of choices. It depends on your preference. The PAM372 from Noob isn't a super Rep but is a very good PAM replica if you ignore the movement.

PAM176 is smaller than the 372 and wears smaller, factoring in the Titanium case it would feel smaller than similarly sized PAMs. There are 44mm super Rep submersibles such as the PAM243 and PAM087. Don't think they'd replace the SA as it's a pilots watch also the SA wears big at 46mm.

In regards to the 372, I didn't think there were any super reps made where the movement matched close enough that it was worth it? That's why I was thinking the Noob 372 with the very accurate dial and a closed case back esp based on the current deal price was the way to go. I do love the looks of the 422 as well

I don't have massive wrists and the SA doesn't feel like it wears too large but perhaps that's more because I'm used to wearing one most days. I've always considered the SA at 48mm more of a big diver than pilot watch

This is a interesting read on wrist presence of luminor vs 1950 44mm cases

https://forum.replica-watch.info/th...1950-case-comparison-pam111-vs-pam312.269247/

As you are starting from scratch with building a collection maybe its a good idea to first start thinking on what functionallity do you want to have, as there are so many different pams with different functions it will narrow down the first watches to choose from.

So do you need a date function does it have to be a automatic do you need a seconds hand or a chronograph function etc ?

That's a great read. Thanks for the link.

I tend to like the simplicity of the dial on the 372 or 422 with the seconds hand. I was leaning towards the more vintage look as well but some of these current wrist shots of the automatics are starting to change my mind. Chronos would be last on my list since I own quite a few reps and gens already. There's just something so unique about PAMS that really has my attention currently and it seems when I get on a kick like this I probably tend to go overboard. [emoji3]

Any other recs?

For the vintage look take the Noob 372 you wont regret it.

For a automatic i would suggest the new VSF 312 or 441, personally i like the 312 dial more and also the gmt hand of 441 is not my favorite choice, on the gen you can cover it under the hour hand, the rep is 24h gmt so not possible to cover it up.

haha yes once you get the PAM bug its hard to be cured :adoration:

Thanks for the suggestion. How does the 312 wear? I will add it to the list?

Are there any other decent 47mm reps worth looking at or any other ceramic case based models?

Any decent white dial reps that aren't tiny? [emoji3]

47mm reps, you have the PAM127 and 217. These are super rep level and they are also linked to vintage designs which explains their popularity. Other reps you might want to consider for ceramic/PVD/DLC at this level are the PAM375/386/617. If you are open to rads, the PAM505 is a ceramic model which is bordering on super rep level.

Woah. I missed that they made a 1950 3 days with DLC. That looks pretty nice. I'm wondering now if it would just make more sense to get a 127 and 217 instead of the noob 372? Which factories make the best reps of each respectively? Are the movements reliable? (i know i should check the guide but i need to run out to pick up the kids) :)

I could then round out the start of the collection with an auto or a rad! I suppose that will set me back some decent coin though if i don't go the Noob 372 route

Last time I checked both the ZF and the KW/V6F versions were super rep level with the KW/V6F just slightly better. The Noob versions if you can get them are also good as well. Reliability wise they are both using the tried and true A6497 movements so they should not be a concern.

Thanks again for the reply!

Would I be right to assume the straps that comes with either rep is not very good?

Although the quality of rep straps have greatly improved, I am of the opinion that these were only supplied because you need a strap to wear the watch. Not to mention the OEM spec rep straps don't fit me :p so I immediately replace them with aftermarket straps, some of which can be had for below 100$. I actually purchased some seriously lovely straps at the stupendous discount of 50% so they were just over 100$, but well worth the price. A nice strap further accentuates a super rep and removes it from the scrutinizing eyes of others. ;)

I highly recommend the 127!
