Pics look great bro :)

You bring up some excellent points on plated vs wrapped. I can only speak from my personal experience and I may have already shared this with you but I've had my watch for about 12 years now and for a good amount of that time it was my everyday watch which I've worn on vacations in salt water oceans, heavily chlorinated pools, the case has even taken a small bump or two so it's definitely taken a "beating" over time and there is absolutely no steel showing at all. It's only recently starting to tarnish on the inside of the bracelet from my wrist which I expected to happen long ago. Other then that the watch looks just as good as it did the day I received it, All it could use is a good polishing.

Were these watches made by some other process then what is being used today? These watches were sold as "Triple Wrapped" which could obviously just be a marketing term but what I would really like to know is how my BP wrapped dd40 compares in terms of gold quality. Will it hold up just as well over time? I'd also love to know if it will test positive for real gold like the TW Best does.

I do believe you that these watches may have had a bigger amount of gold "wrapping" than the usual goldwrapped watches (such as a golden bulova seville I used to own) based on your and the experiences of other twbest owners. In general modern watches use the modern plating technique because it uses less gold, is easier to apply and is more durable. Since this is something no swiss luxury watchmaker would do, most low to midend manufacturers try to keep the costs low and goldwrapping is more a thing of past (more often seen in vintage watches)

It is very hard to make a definite general judgement of anyway because there are alot of variables that differ from each watch owners concerning wear and tear. Some people may be less careful than others or have the watch looser on their wrists making them more susceptible to impact damage. On goldwrapped watches its simply gold on top of a cheaper mostly unknown mixture of base metal. The gold on top will react to things such as swimming pools the same way as solid gold watches, as long as it is not rubbed off. The only thing that is for sure is that goldwrapping and plating is prone to rub off at some time (even if it takes years).

Most likely the twbest has a thicker plating (I really dont think this is more than 20 microns, which is plenty for this technique and atleast more than three times whats used in the other technique) The process of wrapping is alot more expensive and does use more gold.

It is very probable that the bp daydate uses the same wrapping method as the twbest. It is impossible to say how much without scraping it off.

While these watches test positive for gold it should also be noted that only very little gold is rubbed off during the process of the "acid and stone method" I believe any watch that is truly goldwrapped would test as positive. The whole point of this test is to keep the jewlery in the best condition while trying to determine the metal that its made of or plated/wrapped with, it is not a test that in any way determines the amount of gold being used.

Btw do not try to polish it, just clean it with a toothbrush, soap and warmwater as aggressively as you can. Its the safest method to restore the gold shine without polishing it (it just takes too much material iff even with cape cod)

Hey guys, would
this case take a Gen 3155 movement, are there any aftermarket cases that can be modded for gen movement?

I heard about tungsten plated/wrapped gold for weight matching with gold. I am really dieing to see if any marker will do it.

I remember back in the early 2000’s a website that sold solid gold 18k Day Dates. They were selling them for $2000 I believe. Does anyone remember who it was?

I used to get these and very nice TW bi metal subs from River who was around before EddieLee going back to the old TRC days. This hobby was more fun in those days I have to say with the likes of ubi and TTK etc!!

One just sold here a week or two ago. It was beaten up but still went for big $$$. Another one sold over on RG about 18 months ago.

Coming back to this thread, to date this is my favorite rep and one I search for constantly. Really surprised how rare the tw day date is. I know it’s a stretch but if anyone has one or may have any intel on finding one please let me know. I’ve been check the threads every day for a year and a half in hopes I stumble upon a gold vintage day date.

yes I was VERY lucky to find 2 of them within a 2 year period, I personally believe these are still being made in Taiwan ?? but our dealers are from China so maybe thats why we cant source these the normal way?

We need to track those down mate lol. still want one again. The last one i had was pretty good in terms of case shape and size. Unfortunately these are not around anymore from our TD's. No name maker i believe.
