THE PANERAI PROBLEM - Fakes so good you can't tell - PANERAI SUPER FAKES

So I'm kinda annoyed.. I wanted to buy a PAM335 from a member of another forum. And not wanting to be cheated by a fake I looked up panerai fakes. And most of the things I found were of poor quality. Then I happened upon a site that had $600-$900 fakes and they looked identical. SOOO I emailed them to ask if I could see an actual photo because I didn't want to be baited and switched. And they sent me a bunch of photos of a watch that I would actually get. The images were so identical to a real PAM335, I am now worried and won't buy another Panerai on the used market no matter what.

They even told me I could select my serial number and it would take a few days but they could get it for me and change out the back. And the case is actually ceramic with a titanium case back. Weight is the same everything is the same according to the dealer. They even encouraged me to come down in person since I frequently fly to HK, and bring a scale to weight, and a loupe to examine. Whatever I wanted no pressure.
They said all the movements work exactly the same, and that I am welcome to come and test all I want. And that they have quite a few models I can choose from that are identical 1:1 copies.

So at this point, WTF... I guess I can buy real watches for the actual Panerai store, though I am reminded of a story I heard about a lady who was going to sue Hermes but got hushed up (given compensation from them) because a sales associate sold her a fake Birkin in the store. And she only found out when she went to get it cleaned while in France. It was big in the social circles here, though never really came to light on the internet.

Kinda makes me wonder how long they've been at the 1:1 rep game... How long have they've been identical? I have a dot dial I bought about 5 years ago of a "reputable member of a watch forum" and now I'm just not sure about anything..

I honestly doubt Panerai should see this as a problem. How many people here started with reps and just HAD to have a gen because of it? If anything, they should see it as free advertising. People start obsessing over very minor details and wind up saving up for gen.

No, I have a pam590, cuz I wanted the "8 giorni brevettato" logo. Last I checked they haven't made a good rep of it yet.
Have been waiting for ages but I doubt there will ever be a super rep for the PAM343

So wait... Nobody is shocked with what I said? I am genuinely shocked.. I assumed that they were good but one could tell if one knew what to look for. I mean this 335 in question can actually run for 10 days. And the power fang works. Like everything works.. I'm kinda sad to be honest, a little upset that Panerai isn't doing anything that a China company can't copy 1 for 1.. It really devalues the brand in my opinion. That and the damn watch is waterproof. Though they didn't give me a actual depth rating they said that it should be the same as Panerai, and that pools and snorkelling and light diving will not be a problem, salt water included in that.

Kinda still feeling a bit upset as I really wanted to get the watch.. Now my only choice is retail at $17k or risk getting cheated with a fake :(

EDIT: Just for reference I have three Panerai watches, and I'm pretty meticulous when it comes to fine details. Two were bought retail (one in EU and one in Asia) and one was bought second hand from a "reputable" seller about 5 years back.

The point is: Panerai makes simplistic watches with rather simple technology. Good for us, bad for Panerai. And no, I'm not shocked. Not anymore. I love Panerai, but the gens are just not worth it, if you consinder what it really is: a simple watch.

Major please, the fact that gen panerai are expensive has to do with their financial plan, doesn't make them cheaters.
They produce 1 K or 2 K their models and they sold them for the price that give them the ability to survive the way that they choose.
Nothing wrong with this.

If they make their watches by order in noob, then yes, they would be cheaters that publish thousands in low cost
expecting to be super rich without the originality of the watches that would sell.

Pams are their children, they exist cause are a work of their intelligence.

Another fact is that pams are iconic design product that tends to be like classic gas tanks or slippers.
Products designed with principles like those and been in the market for over 50years are becoming slowly
to public property. Don't get it wrong, this is an ultimate recognition for every creation.

I don’t get why people keep saying gen is not worth it!!! How about the 533 that I plan to purchase for sure (when I save up enough for it!!!). I’m sure it will not be rep’ed any time soon.
And panerai is NOT really a simple watch. Check out their tourby with a 2-300K $$ price tag. Now I think Rolex is simple watch IMO.
One more thing about buying gen is better is the fact that not many watchmakers are rep friendly. I would say 80% of them. I had my local watchmaker refused to service a BK sub with real eta movement. >.<

You are right. Tourbis are not simple at all. But the 6479 used in the 127 is as simple as it gets.

Nobody is shocked by what you said because 1:1 reps don't exist, despite what the owner of this 'site' you visited told you - sorry to break it to you like this, but he lied to you, he's what's known as a 'Scammer'.

Tourbillion, not simple. The movements they use in the majority of their other watches? extremely simple. Their base models all use a Unitas 6497 or 6498 that are as simple as they come. Sure they have some in house movements that are nice and somewhat complex, but they are still not at the same level as many of the other in house movements out there. imo

If you are going base model PAM, best to just get rep since you are paying for the name and exclusivity more than the actual materials.

TBH..... Panerai is charging a premium for rather simplistic watches. At the end of the day it wouldn't matter to Panerai because, those who want a gen will end up getting a gen, and those who want a rep will never fully justify the cost of owning and maintaining one. So it's a too each thier own argument. At the end do whatever makes you happy! That's all that matters.

Burn the scammers, or better yet research before you invest. If you're going to spent 5-10k on a luxury watch you should know the inside out of it.
