I appreciate the honesty everyone brings on this forum. Saving money is always a good thing :)

Who would you recommend/know of that does the tapisseries modification? I am leaving to Switzerland in about 4 months and won't be back in the US for 8 months, so I'd like to get it ready by the time I leave if that's anyway shape or form possible timing wise.
If you have 2-5kUSD just buy a gen dial. If you want blue then have someone electroplate it. Or buy an already built Franken, there is plenty for that budget ready to be worn no work involved.

How good would you say the "AR coating" is from the factory? The AP i bought from Intime says it's AR coated. Other models just say sapphire crystal without AR coating.

I can build the watch for you within the time frame or can recommend other modders to you if you are keen. Just send me a PM.

If you got the budget, this is your man. This is the number 1 AP master in our forum and I dare say entire hobby! If he says he can do it in the timeframe, and you have the budget he will have you shining! I've seen his work first hand even if I haven't gone through him myself. I will eventually when I have some more money to play with.

AR coating from factory is good. It's meant to have gen like hue over having better AR properties. It's not very strong but it is extremely clear so there is no "blue/green hues" you see on the Prof AR crystals (that are not gen like)

I genuinely believe AR is only meant for certain watches, and the AP isn't one you need to worry about that much in my opinion. A RM? Yes? Frank Mueller? Sure. Not really AP unless it's an Offshore or something.

I like the bracelet of my 15400 from APSF but do wonder if the first 2 links could be made more flexible? Then they would be more snugg around my wrist. Does the oil bath help there or is this something that needs to be modded? Tried the search but without success.

Hey mates, I have one question, because I can‘t find the right answer.
Have the ZF 15400 (v2; maybe v3) instant date change?
Thank you all.

The white dial of the 15400 have so much more sunburst as the 15500, but the instant date is a criteria for me personaly. So I have an v3 zf black one, which I really like. The white one of the 15500 looks a little bit more like plastic..

Take it from me bro. I was in same situation as you. Just buy the watch you like, they are not gonna upgrade the 15400 anymore as it's already got a clone movement. The only upgrade possible is Franken and that's expensive you can spend 1500$ on gen JLC movement.

I own a 15400 with a Miyota. I think that you are "overthinking" the snap date function a little too hard when you compare the whole package. Do you honestly plan to watch it snap everynight? Is it really that important?

I agree with you 1000% I will not buy 15500 as you said dials are total plastic but they are also .7mm thicker than the 15400! Totally stupid but so is gen so blame AP.

I suggest you get over the date snap and appreciate the crown winding, date and time setting, and movement finishing:) I love my watch dearly. I would only want you to feel the same happiness I do when I wear it.

Any opinions on which AP has the best blue dial, closest to a gen? I’ve read quite a few complaints about the color being off in a number of AP models.

The color of an AP Royal Oak dial depends on not just the paint color used, but also the tapisserie construction affecting light reflection/dispersement, material of dial, surface finish, and post-paint finish. The rep dial and gen are completely different in terms of the tapisserie construction, the surface finish and the post-paint finish. I would say that the material of the dial is arguably similar effectively. That is the reason the colors would always seem a tad off even if the same exact paint color is being used.

Actually the clone 3120 movement with instant date change exists now. I have already built a few 15400 with it.
This may seem frivolous to anyone else but for me, AP watches always comes with instant date change and I do associate it with one of the necessary traits of high end luxury watch brands. Yes I have not stayed up to watch the date change as far as my memory goes but this is evident when setting the time (when you do it the proper way) and also knowing this gives me some weird form of satisfaction. It is just my preference, I cannot speak for anyone else but whenever I see an AP with a slow change date, it tells me that the date gear is either faulty, or the watch isn't truly an AP.
