I actually commissioned one from a member after lining up cart with the raffles part and coming to terms with the lack of my skill set. He ended up recommending the same exact part hah. Will see in a few weeks how it turns out
Looking forward to it, please do share pics 🙌 :)

Random but thank you for this thread, after a 20 gen/rep mix watches collection under 38mm, I feel my next logical step is building one and this has a lot of information to dig through

It can be a bit frustrating, as there's a lot more support for the 36mm and larger sizes, but they're really great "under the radar" builds.

34mm is pretty much my go-to watch for everyday wear. I'll change it up when I'm going out or dressing up, but when I just want to know the time, without drawing much attention to my watch, it's a 5500 Explorer variant or a simple Air King or Oyster Perpetual Date. There's so many variations to choose from, I can wear something different every day.

I totally agree, for me vintage and / or under 36mm is the sweet spot. I don’t like the Rolex date loupe but I might try to see what I else I can do - fun project :) again thank you for starting this

A silver Air King was my first Gen, 25 or so years ago. i have one in the hopper, waiting to be built up, but finding free time is a real challenge lately. Beautiful build, and I like the display! A piece of scrap 2x4 and a 3D printed coronet? Now I want one, lol.

I found i really like the 34mm. Glamour shot from before I changed out the strap.
I really like that strap, it compliments the watch very well. Is that gold plated, or just the lighting?

Just finished my first ever build, first rep, first vintage watch! Loved doing it, and love the watch (the old ranger has always been my grail).

I’m planning on writing a little very very beginner friendly guide, I took photos of every step etc, including my mistakes!

In the meantime though - Anyone got a recommendation? It’s a 34mm raffles case, all raffles, clone 2824. When the caseback (flat, Tudor) is screwed down fully the rotor rubs, I’ve built an additional gasket out of some rubber for now but it’s not ideal. I’ve seen a few other members mention this with the 34mm raffles case, does anyone know if the only fix is to sand the case back? I could try a PT5000?

Cheers!
