Not a 1016 - dont ban me bro.

Specs :
JMB custom case set including bezel and engravings.
Brevet + crown
MQ Viet dial
Raffles time hands
Eta Clone
Silix rivet bracelet
Do you have more info on the bracelet? More pics? How accurate is it? I searched high and low for a real folded rivet bracelet and couldnt find one anywhere. Finally found a decent one on eBay but its nowhere near as precise as gen and i had to modify the clasp to make it snap into place. Was hoping for a better option even handmade by an expert.

This was offered by the now defuncted silix watches....I think it was mfg by the cartel factory which I dont think they have in production any longer.

its light and feels great and is comfortable however the clasp although a large crown clasp its not accurate to gen.

The best option currently is from Ruby watches. they offered a folded oyster with the proper large crown clasp with the proper attached end links , markets ,etc.
I own one and its nice but not as comfortable as this one .

Hey, talking about ruby's rivet bracelet: how do you resize them?
Is it like the original where you need to pry open the link? Or is there another system?

cheers

two methods.

grind out a rivet head and pull the pins . - no recommended.
pry open the center links and remove / add links and bend them back.
it does distort the back of the links but for a vintage bracelet it gives it "character"

Apparently rolex has a tool to do this, I have never seen it in action

Great build, really nice config!

I have a similar build, and share a small reflexion.

I rode here that the 1016 and 1601 were the same cases , but :
- i have the feeling that the 1601 is slighty sinner.
- the caseback of the 1601 is flatter.
(I bought a 1600 and a 1601). Please find a few pictures.

Does anyone can confirm if both cases are the same and that the GEN16XX cases are the closest to 1016?
Does anyone can confirm if a GEN 1016 caseback can fit in a GEN 1601 case ? (The viet ones doesn't fit)

Best

Good morning,
I try to answer you. A couple of years ago I had a 1016 made with the original cal, dial and hands, using a 1600 (smooth bezel). The work came out very well but the case of the Datejust is different from that of the 1016, less thick. Anyone who knows about watches notices this.

Yeah
I see
You're right that the 1601 side is thinner than the 1016
But in my experience the other rep 1016 cases have the opposite wrong fat and heavy side (to not talk about the cheap Raffle cases)
And - at the end - the gen 1601 offers to me the right feeling of a vintage watch (and the people who see the watch on my wrist, confirm!)
I think that RJ was the one and the only who really made a 1:1 Explorer 1016 case set (his words)

I use some picture and a gen 114270 to shape my raffle cases, need some work,m for sure, any one could compare a 1016 case and a more recent 114270, can I use it for reference? Or better to go with pictures?

Yes, the 1600/1601 represents an excellent compromise because you have the original case, especially for me who only use original calibres.
But I've seen custom viet speakers done well. It depends on who makes the changes.
I'll be launching another franken build soon, using an R supply dial/ball set that I have left over.
There are other things to finish first.

Since JMB does not seem to do cases anymore and the viet ones have become very expensive i think Raffles are better than their reputations (At least for builds that do not take original movements).

At least in my case the side profile is closer to the shown 1016s than the other models. Sure there is extra work that can be done (and ill probably follow up with a longer tread about that in the near future) but at least price wise it seems to be a good start. Especially since there seem to be cases now that come with pre installed plexy crystals.
Also pls keep in mind that the angles of the shots differ in legos comparison seem to differ and can lead to misinterpretations.
