It's probably going to be me 😁

I am reflecting now on my next "serious" build after having fun with designing concept Metal Moonswatches.

The Cartier dial is the prime contender, with thoughts on the honeycomb. Will probably do the Cartier and very slightly aged look. A "wife watch" of sorts. The real question is whether I also do the top lug slimming or just the sides

No way, you need to do a other Pokémon themed one like Togepi or Blastoise using the colours of the moonswatches! If you won't, I will haha

AliX vs Raffles cases. AliX has hands (left), Raffles just empty case with dial:

Side profile. Raffles has Rolex crown, AliX is sterile:

To my eye, the Raffles case looks better from the face...the lugs aren't as thick and have a better taper. From the side view, the AliX case might have an edge, the lugs look thinner and with a more gen profile, although the AliX case might have a better (shorter) bezel...it's hard to tell from the photo, and it was too late when I took the pictures to really scrutinize them. I think the angle of the bezel cut is a bit different, too, with the Raffles being a steeper angle and the AliX being more shallow, which makes it look bigger from the front.

Either one is a little bit of case shaping away from excellent, so it boils down to if you'd rather sand the side of the case (AliX) or the top (Raffles), lol. Raffles costs a bit more, but has an engraved case back and a Rolex Crown. AliX needs a crown and (if it's important to you) caseback engraving.

Both would need lug engraving, and the Raffles offers an option of an acrylic crystal.

If you're planning on replacing the crown with Athaya or gen and the crystal with Clark's or Sternkreuz, I see them as dead even, with the price advantage going to AliX and the finish going to Raffles since case back engraving probably costs more than the difference.

Really, they're both great bases for a build, it all depends on what work you plan on doing and what you can do yourself. To be honest, it's quite possible both of these cases come from the same factory, they're close enough to my eyes.

Now you know about them - you'll never be able Un-see the lug heights. You HAVE to skim them.

Sharing this because I thought it was interesting. Different dial finishing techniques and the different results.

Looks like the painstaking process of doing a one-off isn't too much different than how they do it in the factory. Some of the processes are automated, but a surprising amount are done carefully, manually, one dial at a time.

It also assures me I'm on the right track for a waffle dial. V2 got finished early this morning, it's still not perfect, but it's a lot more consistent and closer to gen.

Finally! Took a bit longer than I was anticipating. I had to reset keyless works (god damn you 2824).

Sound of jingly bracelet makes me smile like an idiot (every time).

Yes I know the crystal is wrong and probably other thinks too, but I don't care. I love it and it all that matters

This one has been nothing but problems, but finally have everything sorted.

Gen case and bezel (ref 1500), Raffles dial, AliX crown and Jubilee (very Gen like in that it rattles and fits loosely with big end link gaps, lol). Raffles Commando hands with a seconds hand that’s too short, Clark’s t13, and an NH38 that was a MASSIVE pain in the ass to fit into the 34mm case.

Dial and hands aged and relumed.

Very happy with how it turned out, but damn if it wasn’t the hardest build I’ve done…almost everything that could go wrong did.

Karma says next build is going to be super easy, lol.

Leaving for 10 day holidays in Singa/Kuala in two weeks...

I am in that moment where:
1. builds done
2. waiting for parts*
3. can't order as parts will arrive during hols

pretty frustrating. I don't even want to work on the Railmaster as I need to order a crown. Good news I think I found the right one

* for some reason this batch is just taking ages to come. One specific piece i ordered a month ago 😳 It has been stuck at "Plane arriving status for like two full weeks"

Waiting is the worst thing. Waiting on a big box from Cousins - and as soon as it arrives I'll be busy - until then life is just dull.

APART FROM Sunday Evening Kitchen Shot Club !!!

Come on then you lot - let's be having you . . .

I'll get us started *rolls eyes, as usual. . .
