Looks like you received the thicker crown from raffles.

Interestingly 2 cases that I bought from raffles came with 2 crowns of different thickness :/

I spoke with Raffles this week and put in an order , he does offer the crowns in two thicknesses. I asked for the narrower ones and he is sending them .

I dont know if this is the same tropical dial as I posted earlier but RAffles took some new pics of their 1016 dial and it looks pretty sweet in the sun, so I added one to the order look fwd to seeing it in hand.

just took a closer look, at the new photo on raffles. seems like the printing is closer to a type 6 gilt dial on explorer1016.com
but the crown logo is still a little off; skinny & taller on raffles dial, shorter, flatter & wider on the gen dial

Yes that was my findings also.. practiacally every tropical 1016 gen ive seen is a mk6 gilt dial something about the finish they used in that era

agreed the raffles cornet is not perfect but for for the price its a reasonable compromise.

Movement is a ETA 2452 - slaughtered an old festina
Dial - „Test aged dial“ from some bad explorer vintage rep
Hands - dito - tried to make them rusty - screwed up
Crystal - Clarks T21
Bracelet - rivet from raffles
Crown - the one that came with the case

Well what I learned…. Faux patina is an real art…

Ahja… I messed up a raffles gilt tropical I ordered too

I think it looks alright except for the hands, the colour is kinda bright in the photos

U can find the crystal in eBay. I got a couple from there so far

Built by @369mafia who offered a lot of help and advice in the process.

-Raffles Case modded to take a plexy crystal
-Ruby MK II Dial (gorgeous and worth the price)
-ETA 2824 clone (that keeps exceptionally good time)
-Slight ageing
-Here on a period incorect solid link oyster with fold over security clasp

My daily wear but still some things id like to add.

To Dos:

-case shaping
-correct crown
-serial numbers
-drill/widen lug holes for fat springbars
- low beat movement
-hands in correct dimensions

My 1016 build start, receive some parts from raffle this week and pass the day to play with some file to shape the case, lot of inspiration were found here, @369mafia is the 1016 builder and found lot of his post on the case comparaison, @jmb do the best case for the 1016, that was my inspiration, here the result (unpolished, I have no dremel, all done by hand, paper sand and file,)

@1016 lover nicely done! Did you only change the lug profile or the caseflanks too?
I am considdering doing something quite similar but i am pretty fine with the lugs. But i have the feeling that the raffles case has a little too big caseflanks in relation to the bezel. also id like to get rid of that indentation were the crown and tube sit. as far as i can tell its not that prominent or there at all in a gen 1016

@Action_Jensen thanks, I am pretty happy with the result, I wear it since yesterday and really like the result, I didn't touch the case flank, only lugs, and put a crystal from an other rep on it, think to invest in a Clark to see if it can produce a better look,

@1675lover Yes it's possible, look too big, you re right, measure 6mm diameter, and 3.2mm crown length from the top of the crown to the case.. Is it a 5.3mm crown on the 1016?

I ve just check on the 6mm crown I order for my other build, and the design is not the same, the spare one seem to be less long
