Did a rebuild on this a few weeks ago.
1916 Adolf Schild trench watch with full on Radium. Observed some precautions regarding PPE but what spooked me was the precipitate it had thrown on the inside of the crystal.

And the "burning" had actually come through those fractures on the enamel and thown a deposit on to the movement.

I think I was glowing at night for a while afterwards - actually Radium has a half life of 1500 years!

Thanks, I suspected it wouldn't be that easy. I have an older 36mm case that I noticed is a bit different than the 16XX cases I have. The case back, for sure, but I didn't know how much of the difference was from decades of polishing and wear and how much was straight from the factory.

I would think they are more similar than different. especially to the untrained eye.
the case back yes. engravings yes.
possibly some lug shape and maybe bezel angle? I also assume the movement mounts the same way in the case also, despite teh lack of autowinder on the 1274

I have seen a few people convert a 6426 to a 6429 with the dial hand hands, both being hand wind 1275 cal. the 6429 comes with a 6mm crown , dunno if the 6426 did or not.

@369mafia why not get raffles to get the factory to make 13mm seconds and minute hands?
I could defiantly ask him.
can you provide me with with the other dimentions.

overall length
width
length from center to tip should be 13mm
how wide is the lume plot?

Spent as little time on the dial as possible but what we finished with the client was more than happy with.

nice work.

looks great, was there alot of dust and particles lose in the case from all the lume flaked off the dial?

definatly dont want to be touching that and then licking your fingers lol

Okay so I did a thing

Found my old ratty hands and gave or some ☢️🔥.

My light at my bench is bright so it distorts the macros a bit but the overall appearance on the watch looks pretty badass

Thought id try out a straight seconds hand for that. “ finding parts to keep it running look”.

Overall i like the look and it does gove the watch a very vintage look.

I may be tempted to do this to the hands that were originally on the watch.

☢️☢️☢️

Ya dig ??

Ok, some quick, “less than studio quality” shots of 5500 cases, with a couple extras for comparison. Will try to take better ones when I'm around my better camera gear and light box, maybe try to use something for scale, but won't have time today:

Gen 5500 case, no bezel:

Gen 5500 case with bezel (and a Mochacha dial):

Gen 6694 case (also 34mm):

Gen 6604/6605 36mm case:

And just for reference, a Raffles case, no case shaping performed:

Thank you the pics. There are definitely some variations there between them

Here is my raffles 34 so we have a similar comparison

Raffles 34mm looks a lot more slender than the 36mm, unless you removed a lot of metal when shaping that one.
I hate to say it, but I'm liking 34mm more and more...and a Commando's going to be part of my next Raffles order, lol. Going to try a decal dial and one of Raffles' and see which I like better.

When I get home I'll take better pictures of my case so we can compare better the 34mm cases.

How about opening a thread dedicated to the 6429 commando?

Use to be much cheaper, but to anyone who wants a 34mm case in what seems good shape:

The 34 mm is untouched except for aging.
With the flat caseback it is slim and comfortable.

I did a comparison

Maybe it's just the caseback that makes it look bigger...side by side they don't look that much different.

For my part, I am thinking about that Cartier dial. With a jubilee bracelet and aiming for an old but very well cared for look.

You know, no dings on the case and as sharp a chamfer & brushing that I can make, but with the rest of the case polished but demirrored

the kind of 1016 that your grandma had when she was young
