lol! I've been an Evo guy since I first learned about them, back in '94. I've got nothing but love for the Rex, but if forced to choose I fall into the Mitsu camp...it doesn't hurt that I'm around them all the time at work too :D

I instruct for various Porsche Club of America (PCA) regions and one of my students brought a Lambo Diablo SV one weekend and a Carrera GT another.

Would I buy a CGT? No. On the track it was a beast. You really need to be a pro driver to drive that car. My student, Dan, had an awful time with it as there is so much torque down low that on every track out the back end would want to come around as he would get on the gas. I finally made him run the track in 4th gear instead of 3rd and his lap times improved dramatically as he wasn't fighting the traction control and could concentrate on keeping momentum. People forget that it's your average speed around the track that counts, not who gets back on the gas quicker or who's car is faster. That's why when you watch my "following" videos my NSX (290hp) keeps up with a 615 hp CGT or 550 hp Diablo SV. My lines are better AND I am keeping the momentum going. The reason I always take one session to follow my students and video it is so they can see that 1. where they think their car is is not always where it is; 2. they aren't using all of the track, including using the curbing 3. momentum is everything.

Here is a quick clip of me sitting right seat as an instructor in the CGT.

Great story. I noticed there were a number of times the guy went off the track. The riding looks pretty close too. What happens when there is a wreck with another car? Is it race at your own risk, or would the guy at fault need to pay?

The best vid was the sound of that CGT. Wow.

These are called HPDE (High Performance Driver's Education), thus the instructors that ride with the novices. Novice and Intermediate groups can only pass when the car ahead gives him a point by and only on straights. That way it's actually very safe for all involved. You don't have to worry about running side by side through a corner or someone slamming the door shut going for the apex. It's "at your own risk" and in the 10+ years I have only seen two cars hit once, when someone spun and ended up in the middle of the track and got tagged by a car following.

Advanced groups and Instructors are usually pass anywhere without requiring a point by. But sportsmanship is paramount, and we all know and agree it's not "racing" and you have everything to lose and nothing to gain. If you want to race wheel to wheel they have a separate group just for that - but requirements are more strict (roll cage, fire suppression, etc).

That being said, it's high risk even if we try to minimize the risks the best we can - you never know when the car in front of you is going to drop oil or in this case anti-freeze all over the braking zone at the end of the straight. http://youtu.be/HKBgvb5i7wU

Damn. How did you not hit that guy? How fast were you going?

125 mph before hitting the braking zone.

As I came up over the bump I saw the cloud of smoke, started braking early and there was nothing.... anti-freeze is just as bad as oil. So I was going to take it straight off and then saw the yellow Porsche 944 (the one that blew his coolant hose) sitting in the sand trap straight ahead. So I knew that I had to at least get the car turning to the right and I knew it would spin but the momentum would carry me past the sand trap into the grass. And it all worked out. ;)

Follow the skid marks and you can just make out the yellow 944 in the sand trap.

They say look where you want the car to go.... I did. :)

That's why they call this "HP Driver Education".... I think that if I am ever presented with a situation on the road where someone pulls out or gets into an accident right in front of me, I have a slightly better skill set to avoid the accident than the average driver that hasn't been presented with these type situations before. Don't get me wrong, I was very, very lucky here.... but it was a learning experience.

Here's a prefect example of learning taking place.

Spin in Turn 2:

Later that day, no spin. Learning has occurred. :)

Yes, but a lot of folk forget that a Lambo is a GT not a sports car. It is designed to get from Berlin to Milan as quickly as possible not lap a raceway. it's a big heavy car that is very good at doing what it was designed to do and remarkably proficient at doubling up as a track day car tho it's size and bulk lets it down somewhat in that role. With the exception of the Jota I have been fortunate enough to have driven at least one example of every Lambo made and yes they are far from perfect but still an all time favourite with the Countach and Diablo being the picks of the bunch for me. the newer ones are too sterile with too many driver aids. Much like a modern Porsche they drive themselves whereas a Countach like a 930 Porsche needs a driver behind the wheel, not just a helmsman.

2 years ago, I went to do 5 laps (3km each) in a F430 scuderia, If I remember well 510 hp (20 more than a normal F430 and 50 kegs lighter).
DSC03131.jpg

Anyway, quite a few Nice car around and a 2 Diablo Lp640.
Great stuff, even tho I considered myself as a good driver also found out that I was not a pilot.
So a bit upset with myself I went and took a ride in the passenger seat of that one:
DSC03130.jpg

While it was driven by a professionnal pilot, who was running for the Eu Porsche cup, and was just there to show how things should be done.
We did 2 laps, overtaking the Lambos and Ferraris as if they were Yugos, I think one guy almost step out of his car thinking he was stopped....
The Gt3 rs has only 415 hp and a classic manual Gear box, but was in good hands while the 640hp of the Lambos of the 510hp of the Ferraris with palette shift were in untrainned hands.

Here's my christmas present to myself. 2011 Ford Mustang GT with the new 5.0. I've already installed exhaust, and have a full stereo upgrade on the way.

First pic is a little washed out, but it shows the paint the best.
