I'm stealing this, happened really, it's too much fun to not share it (note: this is a PM convo, not in response to any sales ad):

them : hello i like the closest to gen Datejust that you have
me : i dont have any datejusts
them : how about Submariners then ?
me : i have 2 subs , they are both vintage
them: how much ?
me : how much what ?
them : money
me : money for what ? what are you talking about ?
them : i want to buy vintage sub
me: ok
them : how much ?
me :dude im not selling vinatage subs , i only have 2 and im keeping them
them : do you accept paypal ?
me: im not selling subs , you need to contact one of our TDs
them: i've tried and no one accepts paypal
me : well most times you need to be an established customer for them to accept PP
them : send me your paypal address
me :why ?
them :i send you the money , you send me the clock
me : i just told you , im not selling my subs , i like them
them : i send you paypal , you send TD paypal , you send clock to me
me : no thats not going to happen
them : do you have any closest to gen Daytona ?
This cannot be real? 😂

I've had some over the last few months where they've opened genuine interest, dropped off the planet after telling them all they need to know. Totally normal right? Nothing to see here.

Except when I had one guy ask me why I sold it to someone else after they'd given me radio silence. I mean come off it?

Oh yes, there's a whole breed of those. "I'm interested, give me more info, I'm gonna pay asap, money ready, reserve it for me, 100%" and then they disappear.

I can confirm that this is par for course selling anything, I have a Gibson custom shop guitar for sale on eBay, I get a message ‘what condition is it in?’ I reply ‘mint no signs of wear’ they they come back with ‘whats your best price?’ I reply ‘i turned down £3.5k so you’ll have to do better than than (its up for £3.9k)’ he comes back with ‘i just missed out on one for £3.2k cos it was collection only, so I will offer you the same’ I reply ‘no you won’t.’

Absolutely 100% agree, Cars, Boats, Bikes, absolutely anything. I hardly sell at all these days, half the time I either bin stuff or give it away, case in point recently I had 2 different muppets come to view my immaculate vintage Trace Elliot Bass stack rig, both made ludicrous low offers and got told to fuck right off, one muppet even wanted me to "throw" my Yamaha Bass Guitar in :ROFLMAO:
I can't gig with it anymore due to the arthritis.

Then I found out that a young guy who works in Mels shop plays Bass and his old rig was U/S, preventing him from gigging and earning some extra dosh.
I put the Trace in the back of my Car, took it down to his house and gave it to him. Guy was over the moon, I know he appreciated it.

Admisssion:
I once bought a watch here on M2M from Germany (to Aus) I completely stuffed up the exchange rate but I was sure I was correct, so the seller was shy a few quid, it got a little heated... words like scammer were involved! 😳 I cant tell you what a tool i felt when I realised it was my stuff up! Has made me super careful ever since!

Mate, that's a rig, nice gesture, I played a bit of slap bass in the 80’s, but I stick to guitar these days. I actually do OK selling on eBay, and interestingly, everytime someone low balls me, within a week I get my asking price. So there's hoping the goldtop goes this weekend.

This makes me think of an OT story: My cousin's kid dropped my Martin D-28 1937 heavily on rocky ground so hard the body broke. His mom (my cousin) asks me: how much does it cost? I pay you back. Is €500 enough?
