Is there any reason why you decided to order from Puretime rather than Tony since he's cheaper? Is the watch different on each site? Thanks.

It is the same rep!

But the issues too!!

"kaniel" has a Cal36 from Asian with the same problem
Mine is from RM (when it was TD) and I have two returns made

I think is a Cal36 problem, but I don't know why, becasue the mvmt are the same. Perhaps the special second @9 system??

Send it to one of the watch smiths on the boards here! A 7750 service is $200 or less. Then it will be fixed, you can use the chronos, and not have to worry about wearing a watch that could break at the press of a button. Why go through all of that with the dealer, only to end up in the same place you were before?

Love the vette! Great pics as well. Z06 yes? Great color choice. My father drives a C5, it's electron blue which I also like.

Seriously, get it serviced, it's worth the extra cash to get it done with. Watch smiths can fix whatever broke, and the A7750 will run as good as a swiss counterpart after a service.

I have considered having one of the forum watchsmiths fix it but I JUST BOUGHT the thing, and I don't really feel like I should need to spend another $200 or more to get a watch that I haven't worn for more than a week fixed. I'm sending back to PureTime tomorrow... Nikkita tells me that it will be sent back to the factory and that if it is repairable, it will be repaired, but if it is not I will get a new one. We'll see how that goes.

Good guess but my car is a Grand Sport. :)

PureTime's on-line presentation lead me to feel comfortable with them. Also I believe it's only a few dollars difference.

In other news I just bought this from them as well. Hopefully the UN proves to be a more reliable 7750 than in the Tag.

Okay, update:

I've been loving the watch so far. Gotten many compliments.

Well, today was the second time I used the chronograph. Bad mistake. I couldn't stop it. It eventually did stop, a few minutes later, but I can't return the hand to the set point. Additionally, it is no longer ticking, it doesn't wind anymore, and... basically it's stopped working altogether, and after only a few days of use.

I've contacted Nikkita at Puretimewatch to see what we can do about this. If any of you are planning to buy this watch, do yourself a favor and don't use the chronograph more than once.

My Calibre 36 also broke within a week :( seems like its a common problem. Funny thing is, I only used the chrono once and the watch stopped running while it wasn't being used. I took the watch to my watchsmith and he said that the setting lever (or something) broke because they used the wrong lever for this movement..

What did you end up doing with your watch? did you repair it or get a replacement?

I have had the same problem with mine!!
I think that levelman are right!!

Well, as ALE7575 said... I have the same problem with this watch in less than 2 weeks of use.
It's a great watch but movement is trash.

Check our trusted watchsmiths section. I never bother with sending a watch back to China, it just too much of a hassle and can be months before you resolve it. So I send them to one of our guys and have them do a tear down. That said, you might have messed it up good, and China might be the only option you have.

Pity, this happens from time to time. Good luck and don't lose faith in the hobby!

I've been trying to contact FRANCISCO since it happened but I get no reply from him... Maybe he's on holydays on the beach , who knows...

I'll bring it to a local watchsmith too to see what he says... but I think 200$ to get it serviced it's a little too much... Anyway I´ll bring it and see what he says.

I also sent an email to Tony and he told me to send him back and we will repair it... But I don't know if it's a good idea... I've read so many times that buyers send a watch to the dealer to get it repaired and after 2 months they get it back with no repair at all...
I trust Tony.. but I don't think we will repair it.. But again.. If I have to pay 200$ to get it serviced... maybe I'll thinck of sending it back to Tony and see what he can do....

If anyone got the same problem and got it serviced it would be helpfull to tell us where/who repaired it.

I took my Cal 36 to my local watch smith and paid $220 for full service. The watch worked perfectly for about another week (I abused the chrono after the service) and then it died again. Luckily my watch smith provided a 1 year warranty so I didn't have to pay him again for the repair. It turns out that the problem this time was a completely different thing, the gear for the rotor completely broke off.. And ever since then, I've been using the watch for 2 weeks now without a problem.

I love this watch, but I'm getting frustrated about the lack of reliability of this watch. I don't know if its just the movement or the modification that they made for this watch. If anyone know what is causing this reliability issues, feel free to share.

Sorry to hear about everyone's misfortune with this rep. I almost bought this from Tony last week before reading this thread. I've decided to hold off for a bit, since the movement seems to be failing so soon. I don't plan on using the chrono function, I just love the look of the watch.

For now, I think I'm going to get the Quartz version in the 7750 casing from timeshops.net even though the subdials are not accurate.

Here's the link: http://www.timeshops.net/carrera/3897-tg4486---tag-heuer-carrera-black-dial-ssss-7750-casing---japan-os-chronograph

I'd love to hear what you vets think. Am I tripping?!?

This is why I purchased the highest-end quarts Cal. 36 instead of the 7750 (quality varies on the quartz version, so you have to look around). It was about $150 and it is bomb proof because it is quartz. Sure, quartz is not quite as accurate as the 7750, but the tradeoff is that it needs NO servicing.

Hello all. I'm glad to be part of this forum-learning lots and hoping to start a collection really soon!
Is the quality of that particular Timeshops quartz Tag up to snuff? Kinda hard to tell from the pics.
Thanks for all the info!

This is a great thread, I almost pulled the trigger on one too.

Where did you get your quartz model? I think RM use to have one, but I'm not seeing it anymore.

I feel ya buddy. IMO if you really like this watch so much (like me) you should just get it serviced. My calibre 36 is running smoothly now and I've been abusing the chrono on a daily basis :) now I just have to find a way to fix the dial that my watchsmith damaged :(

To be honest, I don't think that the quartz version of this watch holds a candle to the 7750. The 7750 is just more detailed, weights like the gen and overall feels more well built. I've handled a few of quartz versions and it just doesn't compare. A full service is a must though, which ultimately will bring this watch to the $500+ range.

So is this thing pretty solid after a servicing??
This is really the only tag ive ever wanted, sucks that the movement is so terrible out of the box :(

Dont mind using it til lit breaks, then getting it modded though...

To be honest if I could get it serviced and spend $220 I'd do it... so that it could run like I want it to. But my local watch smiths have told me it'd be 'way more than a few hundred dollars' to fix it.

gsb5, maybe I could send it to you and you could bring it to your watch guy?

I don't think you'll want to use my watch smith, he messed up the dial pretty bad, I have scratches all over the silver markers and hands. I guess thats the trade off for having a working chrono..

- update: watch died again today oh god.. Now I'm starting to think that the 7750 movements for tag are modified? All of my other serviced A7750 is working like a tank.. What do you guys think?
