36mm DJ with a Jubilee and a silver stick dial is my grail Watch. Have an almost all gen 5 digit which I absolutely love but needs a bit of tweaking. Should be a fantastic build this
Thought I would add my ARF to the mix. It is such a great watch. Everything is completely interchangeable as gen. I’ve added a gen diamond bezel, gen refinished mop diamond dial, black hole crystal, had the bracelet rebrushed and dipped in ultra sonic, changed datewheel, services Yuki and made it a Hybrid with Gen parts. All the date mechanisms and some more. Runs fantastic and feels fantastic. Good luck with yours bro. It will look great.

Now i feel like i need this. Lol
Subscribed. Going to get my white dial ARF 36mm in a month or so. Question; is a genuine 18k/14k WG bezel a must? Or stock bezel is just as good?

subscribed this thread! I had the same idea!
I own a gen datejust with jubilee bracelet and I will not let him go for anything because is related to a special occasion, but looking at those ARF.... well they are growing much in me!
would like to take one with oyster and swap first the datewheel.

Okay guys, i thought I won't do another franken build until i finish what was left on my plate first....
...but an instagrammer DM-ed (directly-messaged) me with comparison pics of his gen 116234 vs his newly-acquired rep ARF 116234. I was immediately blown away into the next dimension for a brief moment because of how similar the rep and gen looked. It's safe to say that i was immediately convinced and that was the moment i decided that i MUST build a franken one asap (as a Datejust lover, it would be a SIN for me not to franken an ARF 116234). As for the instagrammer who DM-ed me, he immediately sold his gen 116234 and swapped a gen dial into his ARF 116234 - he didn't see the point of keeping the gen when they are both identical (and this includes the bezel flute - they are virtually identical in terms of dimensions and flute angles)
To start off this project, i firstly went to CWR (Classic Watch Repair) in Hong Kong to pick up this beautiful 116200/116234 dial. For those who are unfamiliar with CWR, CWR is famous for Michael Young's magic for bracelet restoration. I had a fun time talking and sharing my franken ideas there - they are very passionate in what they do and the Rolex parts they have collected over the years is mind-blowing and rare. I am delighted that they don't judge franken builders and that enabled us to have a wonderful conversation about custom project builds and servicing movements. They carry the same belief as I do - as long as it is for the fun of horology and the wearer enjoys what they build/franken without the intent of defrauding/scamming (when it comes to reselling the watch).. then it's all good and fun!
Here is the dial I bought (photo below taken outside of CWR). I decided to pick up this gen 116200 / 116234 sunburst silver dial because I believe it is the most representative dial colour of a Rolex Datejust. I intend to use the silver sunburst dial to build a plain-jane-looking modern 36mm Rolex - a combination of simplicity with elegance (just like the kinda girls I like ahaaaa).
I will order an ARF 116234 from sead shortly later and I will do a full review of it here in this thread
Meanwhile at home, i have the following parts now and here is the ingredient list for this build:
1. Gen Rolex 116200 / 116234 silver sunburst dial
2. Gen 3135 date disc
3. Gen 25 295c LEC crystal (without AR)
I am still deciding if i should go for the jubilee bracelet version or the oyster bracelet version.
Oyster!
@pompompurin I love 36mm datejust on Jubilee. Jubilee just has a unique flare thats eye catching with that fluted bezel. However, both are sexy - can't go wrong either way IMO. Ask the TD sell you separate bracelet which ever one you don't choose with the watch.
Any chance you want to build 2 identical and sell me one of them??? hehe can't hurt to ask. Can't wait to see it when you finish!
@TitleistRolex love your username and picture. My 3 best friends of all times... Titleist, Rolex and Scotch
thanks! perhaps you could buy the ARF and do a hand-to-hand comparison with your gen!
Yes I could, but my DJ is a 5 digit, 16014...
Subscribed mate. really following this since its my favorite datejust atm. You should indeed go oyster. Snapped this pic at AD:

Damnit now I want one with a white dial.. either it's pretty or the AD's lighting is playing tricks on me
The oyster bracelet somehow looks better on fatter 1162xx case
To me its the most beautiful and cleanest dial. I fell in love when i saw it at the AD. Its not the lighting that is playing tricks, that i can tell you

You are already the reason why I build a Superfranken 16030....
LOL this sounds like i might have to franken another one with roman dial in the future
my only complaint is that I wished the gen Roman dial did come with lume dots or lumed roman indices because lumed dial corresponds with lumed datejust hands (i find the solid steel datejust hands weird-looking)
I think this kind of lume also looks cool (even though i hate arabic dials LOL)
That surely looks cool. Well im not that anal about lume, since i never actually “use” it in daily wear. But to eacht their own ofcourse
You should certainly build a roman version, or i will do it lol. But need to find a place where they sell dials for a realistic price lol
