I have a KW682. You know, I don't that it's a little thicker than the gen. It's still a lovely watch!
Yeah I agree.. At first I was having some difficulty reconciling the flaws of this PAM682. I love the watch, and am excited that Panerai finally has a smaller option for the submersible model which is a fantastic and distinct looking watch imo. It was really disappointing to me that for one, I didn't realise the glaring flaw on the case-back with the balance wheel in the wrong position (on my A23J , should've gone for the 7750), and furthermore learning that the case diameter is quite far from 1:1 since the rep-makers have yet to get their hands on a gen for comparison and tooling.
But after some deliberation I've come to terms with the fact that at the end of the day you can't always go for an undisputed "super-rep".. (well I guess you could, but you'd be limiting your options, style, and personal preference... also nothing wrong with that)
My thoughts are, if you love a style or model, even if it has minor flaws, in the end it is a rep. As long as its close
enough, and looks good, go for it. I don't know about the daily interactions of all members here, but I can say with some confidence that 99% of the people I encounter on a day-to-day basis don't have a fraction of the in-depth knowledge about some of these watches as we do here on the forum. We scrutinize every detail under a microscope, so to us these flaws are "glaringly obvious" but to the average person they honestly will never know the difference. Especially if they're trying to peep our reps while they're on-wrist. (I know some people say the 1-2mm difference is obvious, but I have my doubts if someone could really tell by eyeballing a watch on someones wrist..)
Anyway, I guess my point is to just wear with confidence if its a style you love.
Sorry for a bit of a rant. I still think the PAM682 is a beautiful watch and I don't think the photos quite do it justice, it really looks fantastic on-wrist! Sent mine off for a re-lume of the dial for that extra bright glow
