First releases of XF/VSF PAM 616 were equipped with optically correct sapphire, without extreme angle distortion. So they know how to do it. Maybe they changed supplier or something similar. Anyway, i DO LIKE the rep sapphire better; I found correct sapphire in rep/gen PAM 616 as ...cheap looking, not "strong enough", "dangerously thin" and so on ;)

I loved the 1616 and the 799 is just as great. The subtle differences make a huge difference imo and this is an absolutely stunning watch.

The lume is correct on the 799.

I posted some pics. Some side by side next to the 1616. I was especially trying to see how the dial photographed. The 1616 has this sort of metallic effect to it and I was trying to see if the 799 has it too. That’s why I took and posted pretty much the same pic side by side but with the order of the watches changed. To see if the effect of the dial changed relative to the angle of the light.

For such subtle changes, there is a big difference. I believe the dials are the same but on the 1616, because of the darker materials (the carbo tech case, the darker blue indices, and no rim on the outside of the blue on the markers) the dial pops more. While on the 799, because of the lighter accents, the “grain” of the Carbo tech bezel has more of a pop. Both stunning watches through.

I like that strap. I've been trying to find one with some bold blue in it. I was talking to Nero about one and then he cut his hand off. So not I'm looking to do exactly what you have there. Black leather with a nice blue stich. Thay looks hot.

What!!?! Is that some weird saying that I've never come across or do you mean that literally? If so, do say more!

Yeah, that's a weird figure of speech. But then JohnG has eight hands so one less isn't a handicap. :p

He had had an accident with a circular saw near his house which, as he stated “took out a chunk of his wrist”. This was like at the end of August and he was going to be hospital bound for a while but he did have a smile on his face. Which is good.

I’m not even sure if it was posted. At least not yet. I was exchanging emails with him at the time it happened that’s the only reason I know. He had to spend a few days in the hospital and he’s probably just out now based on that original time table.

The dude was hung up in the hospital with his hand all bundled up and he’s emailing me to keep me updated. I felt bad. Lol. I was like “dude don’t worry about it. get better”. But he’s probably going to be hung up from straps for a little while.
