According to Joshua/PC the KW's case of 661 is based on the same dimensions as regular 1950 3 day case, which turns to be OK, quote with some part bolded by me:

"The latest Carbotech is the PAM 661. The 2015 version of Panerai’s Carbotech (PAM 616) had the Luminor Submersible style case, which features an external rotating bezel. The new version has the classic Luminor 1950 case, yet it is still fitted with the Submersible style dial."

In my last visit to Madrid SIHH 2016 I had the opportunity to see and handle the new PAM models, new PAM 661 Carbotech included
PAM 661 was fitted with the NEW thinner Luminor 1950 case of thickness 15,65mm. It looks nice with the new slim thickness and the zebra strips effect was less evident than in previous PAM 616 Carbotech.
Thickness will be an obvious tell for this rep.
Anyway since the new Carbotech 661 has no related model on old series (because PAM 616 is a different model with submersible type bezel) the difference will be less evident than in models with related old watches, like PAM 1312 or PAM 1359 which have the corresponding old models PAM 312 and PAM 359

yeah, and i also wonder why dont they just use the A6497 movt for 1950 case? because it's closed caseback and people wont notice whether you manually wind your watch or it is a completely automatic watch

Makers are trying to get a decorated P.9010 rep movement to be used in display caseback models like PAM 1312, PAM 1359 ....

Not sure if they show it on Watchbus - having a hard time getting the pages to load. Does anyone mind posting pics of the movement decorations? Interested in seeing what they came up with for the first run on these.

I think KW did it better than we think. Let's compare:

typical 1950 case set 3 days PR - in this case I selected black 441:

...and our hero, KW PAM 661:

KW 661 IS SLIMMER! Even CG is slimmer!

Thanks Polonus
Very interesting comparison. The new watch looks attractive
Could you get the actual total thickness of two watches by a caliper ?
That would be definitive

I am afraid it can only be possible when I get the watch - I will review it, use caliper and so on :)
...but after analyzing photos of 441 and available photos of KW 661 I think that (to summarize it down to the conclusion) KW version of PAM 661 is thicker about 0,5 mm that original 15,65mm. I hope I will be confirmed when I get the watch.

Well, absolutely not as bad as I thought.
0.5 mm could be acceptable after all if we get the correct thin crown guard, CB and lugs.
0.5 mm are quite hard to see IRL...
Let's see the measurements :)

Polonus I thought you got already the watch
Yes. I agree 0,5mm would be really acceptable and almost perfect for a rep, if the rest is OK
But dealer catalogues are indicating thickness of 17 to 17,5mm
Anyway, even with bad thickness, it seems better than I expected

I'm also concerned about the Carbotech pattern. In the gen I saw in Madrid some days ago the pattern and zebra effect was few noticeable under naked eye and regular lighting

BTW the gen strap was impressive with a nice oiled look and touch. I doubt the rep strap has the same look and touch
But the watch also looked really good with a lighter brown leather strap (a little like matching the lume, but darker )

The gen I saw in Madrid SIHH 2016 was without production number but it was an out of series watch for exhibition purposes
Obviously the real production will come with production number

A dealer confirmed that it's thinner than the other P9000 decorations and that the thickness is gen-like.

I don't have measuring calipers but I've got my 661 and I can confirm that bezel edge, case, crown guard and caseback are all slightly thinner as compared to my 441.
Carbon patterns seem to be less visible than 616, looks matte except when under stronger lighting.
