I received my KING OP41 in silver the other day after a hassle free transaction with a RWI TD.
Some observations when comparing it to my EWF:
- KING and EWF look identical, same hands, dial, case, bezel, lume, etc. nothing is distinctly different even with a loupe
- KING (head only) is 62.5 grams, EWF is 59.9 grams, an indistinguishable difference on the wrist
- KING movement (rotor) is much quieter than EWF when given a gentle to moderate shake (no bracelet)
- KING stem tube threads have better engagement than EWF but they're much rougher, the machining is poor - they will probably bed in with use but cross-threading is a real risk
- KING crown has much, much sharper beveled edges than EWF, easier to grip but feels far less premium than EWF
- KING winding feels rougher than EWF but at the same time less fragile
- KING has disconcerting feedback when fully wound but EWF feels like it might break at any time
- KING (mine) keeps better time than (my) EWF... KING is about +5s per day, EWF is about +15s per day
So, the KING is not the revelation over the EWF I was hoping it might be but it does feel mechanically more sound, even if the finishing is a little worse.
My only disappointment is that I can't get my EWF Jubilee bracelet to properly engage with the KING head, it's a bit strange because the KING Oyster bracelet mates perfectly to the EWF head with no obvious (under loupe) EL gaps... the springbar alignment must be 0.?mm out but I can't see where/how and i don't know how to fix this. It's a pity because I think the basic Rolex Oyster bracelet (reps) suck and also don't even look that good.
